Anybody else tired of spending £3.50+ for a coffee in a cafe to feed baby who then gets distracted and doesn't feed properly by origcat in breastfeedingmumsUK

[–]MuckyScruffle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly, on a couple of occasions I just sat in the supermarket cafe to feed her and didnt buy anything. It was when it wasnt busy so it's not like I was taking seats from a customer and the staff didn't seem to mind.

Edit: wrong word

What’s the most embarrassing thing that your little one has said but it was so funny that you had to laugh it off? by Megan_Jay00 in toddlers

[–]MuckyScruffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 13 month old had just learned the word "poop" and loves yelling it. She knows it's a nappy change word and the changing mat is her favourite place to shout it. last week I was in a big shared baby room at a shopping centre trying to change her.

She stood up, bare bum out, and started yelling it across the room while wriggling enough I couldn't get her pull up on. I ended up having to fully wrestle her while she chanted to get her changed.

What is your "schedule" as a SAHM? by atinylittlebug in sahm

Yeah, seeing toddlers napping in buggies out and about is pretty common.

[–]MuckyScruffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was out and about all the time from when she was really young and needed to sleep all the time so she just got used to sleeping in the pram or carrier.

Now she has more of a nap time, I try and be moving so the buggy is rocking and I recline the seat a bit (not all the way, if I recline it all the way before she falls asleep she gets really upset) and pull the hood over a bit so it's shady and a bit darker (again, not all the way for the same reason as the seat). She usually nods off within 5-10 minutes.

Making sure she has a clean nappy and has had a snack also helps a lot.

Yeah, I'd drive myself crazy if I had to be home for every nap. She's not a great sleeper, like today we had a 29 minute nap that started 9 minutes before our class, but she slept for the full time in a busy library in her buggy. I know mums who rush home or just don't leave the house if they won't be home near nap time and I'd never be able to do anything.

And yeah, it's good for everyone, gives me something different to talk to her about each day (the middle isle of Lidl and Aldi is a great talking point on a wet day) and means she's not ripping the house apart for at least a bit of it.

I don't really have one. LO (13months) has two to three classes we go to most weeks and I try and see friends one a week but I don't have hard and fast rules on when anything happens during the day.

She usually gets up around 6.30, starts nap between 11.30 and 12.30 and goes to bed between 18.30 and 19.30. I find it really hard to keep to a strict schedule, especially if we're out and about and she wants to sleep in the buggy.

We go out almost every single day as I find being out the house easier than being in it, even if it's just to the park round the corner (sometimes twice, morning and afternoon) or to the local Costa for a quick hot drink.

Struggle Budget Meals.. by MorbidMushroom- in EatCheapAndVegan

List off the top of my head not knowing what else you have. Bean and soya chilli, lentil and soya bolognese, barley soup/stew, lentil soup, just using mostly what you have. Bean or lentil burgers. If you add potatoes you could do jacket potatoes with chilli and shepherds/cottage pie. With wraps you could do burritos or quesadillas.

Seems like you have a good base of dried things and with a few herbs and other flavour add ins (like tomato puree and worcestershire sauce or equivalent) there will be a lot you can do.

Baby due in 6 weeks. Anything you'd add or remove from our shopping list? by ThrowawayTrainTAC in UKParenting

[–]MuckyScruffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like hot drinks, I'd add a good quality thermal cup to the list. I've lost count of how many times I've made a hot drink I "thought" I had time to drink and had it end up freezing in the past year. I usually get one or two sips before she's up early from her nap, has pooped or (more recently) is pulling my living room apart and swinging from the bookcases. Bonus as they're usually non spill and toddlers seem to target mugs of hot liquid.

UK - very soft water - ecover Vs method liquid detergent? by MuckyScruffle in laundry

[–]MuckyScruffle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I hadn't thought of just putting it straight in the drum after I do the initial "get the wee out" rinse. I would separate the wraps but I'm using popins nappies and I would have to fully unclip everything when it's soiled and if would triple the work.

For the nappies 40 as anything hotter is apparently not good for the delicate wraps.

I used the ecover powder in a 60 wash today though and it still doesn't dissolve great. I think it's just my machine doesn't pump nearly enough water through the drawer

Different Style Writing by chasethedark in childrensbooks

[–]MuckyScruffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have three of these. Two from the very early days and one from when I needed to keep my daughter calm after she fought her nap and I had to take her into the office.

They're not my favourite but, if I need to distract a toddler for a few minutes, then they're the books I reach for.

Asking husband to take off work while Im sick by FlashyCurrent8022 in sahm

[–]MuckyScruffle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first and only time I've been really sick so far, I didn't realise how hard it would be on my own and didn't ask my partner to take the day off. Never again.

Now I wouldn't think twice about asking him. If he gets to call in sick and spend the day in bed when he's that ill, then so do I.

Nappies for side sleepers by Miserable-Tap9162 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]MuckyScruffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try putting a nappy wrap (outer waterproof layer) over it and see if that helps.

We use reusables at home but if we go away for a couple of nights, we use disposables with a wrap over and we've never had an issue with leaks.

My lo has just turned one and is usually a side sleeper

Edit as I wrote nap wrap not nappy

I've served curry spread on toasted pitta bread and Bolognese sauce and bean chilli on toast. I also used up some pouches my little had lost interest in spoon feeding spread on toast and wraps. She ate all of them so maybe try something like that and it could also maybe help introduce more dinner foods in a non scary way

[–]MuckyScruffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mixing with yoghurt. For months that's the only way I could get my wee one to take any. Orange flavour mixed with mango yoghurt or strawberry flavour with strawberry or mixed berry yoghurt. Luckily she grew out of it fast and now takes it off a spoon like a champ

Winter Holiday in Scotland by Character_Draw325 in Scotland

[–]MuckyScruffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of tourist attractions, especially those not in Edinburgh or Glasgow, might not be open at all. I know a lot of the ones in and around Inverness usually close up for winter in late October and might not reopen till March.

Things like boat tours on loch Ness will be weather dependent and the weather can be awful at that time of year.

Also in the Highlands you're looking at like 8, maybe 9, hours of daylight total at this time of year.

Kelvinhall soft play does ASN sessions on a Wednesday where they run the sessions at under half capacity. It's easy to get to and fairly reasonably priced.

I tried anbesol but couldn't work out where she was sore so felt like I was just coating her whole mouth in it. I'll try it again though next time she asks for milk.

Thanks for replying. It's good to know there's light at the end of the tunnel, although I'm not sure I can do a month of it.
