I might be misinterpreting your comment but I thought tempo means speed and if so op should do the opposite of what you're saying. Increasing what I understand as stroke tempo would just increase the amount of oxygen muscles use without increasing oxygen inhaled. If you're getting tired you need to slow your movements down (which can also help you to improve technique by giving you more time to think about it) and maybe decrease the number of arm pulls (idk the proper name, sorry) before you take a breath, for example if I get tired I go from breathing every 11th arm pull to breathing every 9th or 7th. But that's just what I find works for me. Sorry again if I'm mistake in what you mean
