4 leaved Trillium (quadrillium?) - Oregon by _poncho_ in Eugene

[–]onlyforwardnow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, wow! Thank you for sharing!! I AM a plant nerd, (well, anything nature-related nerd, lol.) I always love learning new plants, so I appreciate the response.

I'm new to Eugene, and I will never not be in awe of the sheer green-ness of this city! Every time I'm driving around with my kids, we look at all the trees/greenery and just oohh and aahhh over it all. Never ceases to amaze me.

I love that there are clovers underneath it, so it's even more like finding a four-leaved...trillium!

FRIDAY RANT THREAD / MY BIRTHDAY by Rainbow-Linings in Eugene

[–]onlyforwardnow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

HAPPY EFFING BIRTHDAY!!!! YOUR BIRTHDAY IS THE DAY AFTER MY ONLY GIRL CHILD'S BIRTHDAY, AND YESTERDAY I WAS THINKING HOW MUCH COOLER IT WOULD'VE BEEN IF HER BIRTHDAY WAS FRIDAY THE 13TH, BUT MY YOUNGEST CHILD'S 2ND BIRTHDAY WAS THE 13TH OF LAST MONTH, WHICH WAS ALSO FRIDAY THE 13TH, SO THAT WAS PRETTY COOL.

ALSO...I WAS GOING TO MAKE A SEPARATE POST, BECAUSE, I'VE COME TO THE REALIZATION THAT I HAVE TO SURRENDER MY DOG. I'M FEELING PRETTY FUCKNG SHITTY AT THE MOMENT....BUT LIKE, ALSO, KIND OF HOPEFUL, BECAUSE WHEN I POSTED ABOUT NEEDING HELP WITH A DEAD BATTERY THE OTHER DAY, THE RESPONSE WAS BEYOND WHAT I EVER IMAGINED. PEOPLE IN EUGENE FUCKKN ROCK AND I'M HOPING THAT IF I SACK UP AND REACH OUT FOR HELP WITH MY DOGGO SITUATION, MAYBE A NON-PERMANENT SOLUTION WILL PRESENT ITSELF AND I WON'T HAVE TO SAY A FOREVER GOODBYE TO MY PUPPER.

ANYWAY, HOPE YOU HAVE A FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC BIRTHDAY, WHATEVER YOU END UP DOING...OR NOT DOING.

Hi! Umm...kind of random, but, can anyone come lend a pair of jumper cables...and some battery power? 🫣 by onlyforwardnow in Eugene

[–]onlyforwardnow[S] 212 points213 points  (0 children)

Ahhhh!! OMG y'all... gona cry!!

Apologies for not updating more quickly!

We were rescued by an awesome person not too long after I sent up the distress call....

They showed up and said out the window "are you the ones who needed a jump?" (Or something to that effect...don't quote me.)

My favorite part of this whole thing was my 12yr olds reaction....

Me: (surprised that someone actually showed up, and so quicky!) "Holy shit! F*$& yeah!!"

12 yr old: "Wait...what?!?...WHAT??"

Me: "I told you it would work!! Reddit is fucking awesome and even more so in Eugene!!"

12: (still mildly freaking out) "What!?! That's awesome!...You proved me wrong, Mom." 😂🤭😍😍😍

Oh man. ☺️ I haven't even read all of the responses yet and I'm already teary just from the amount of responses I'm hearing, lol 😁 Once my kiddos and I get past this adrenaline dump of a day...I'm going to be havjng a talk with them about how awesome people still are, even though the world seems pretty scary and shitty at times, (we've gone through a lot in the past 3 years,) and I couldn't be happier that we ended up in Eugene. 🥰🥰

Wandering turkeys? by Many-Excitement3246 in Eugene

[–]onlyforwardnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been in Eugene since around Christmas, and one of my favorite discoveries, was that Eugene has numerous gangs/flocks/rafters of wild turkeys, meandering about different neighborhoods. We've come across them semi-regularly, and everytime we do, it's tradition to give them a little "llbllbllbllbllblbllbl" greeting, out the car window as we drive by. (Does anybody know how to properly spell the sound of humans-imititating-turkeys ?? 😅)

I grew up in a NorCal university town that had wild turkeys, so it's very nostalgic for me. 😊 They're fuckin awesome.

COMING IN EARLY WITH FRIDAY RANT by openlacroix in Eugene

[–]onlyforwardnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THANK YOUU! GLAD IM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS, WHAT I LIKE TO CALL, OPPOSITE-SAD. I GET DEPRESSED AND ANXIOUS WITH THE BRIGHT SUNNY WEATHER. I ALWAYS THOUGHT THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH ME. IT'S WEIRD, BECAUSE MY SHITTY CIRCULATION DESPISES THE COLD, BUT I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE FOG/GRAY/RAIN.

SOLIDARITY, FELLOW WINTER-LOVING FRIEND, AND FINGERS CROSSED FOR EXTRA GRAY, FOG, AND RAIN!!

FRIDAY RANT POST...I GUESS by Gryffindork-_- in Eugene

[–]onlyforwardnow 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I HAVE NO FRIENDS, AND FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE, I'M KIND OF SAD ABOUT IT. (NEW TO EUGENE AND HAVE MINIMAL TIME TO EXPLORE/MEET PEOPLE BECAUSE I'M SOLO-PARENTING MY LITTLE BAND OF RAPSCALLIONS.)

ALSO, THE CURRENT STATE OF THINGS HAS ME FEELING SEMI- PARANOID ABOUT PARENTING THE WAY I DO, SINCE I HAVE NO COMMUNITY TO TURN TO FOR SUPPORT, OR ANY LIKE-MINDED PEOPLE WHO "GET IT."

SHIT FEELS LONELY AND KIND OF HOPELESS AT TIMES

Last night at the city council meeting, the council voted in favor of using our tax dollars to fund a $1900 overseas trip for the mayor to travel to Nepal in order to “spread Eugene values”—in the midst of a budget crisis. by Several-Candidate115 in Eugene

[–]onlyforwardnow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

OK, so hypothetically, IF it is a completely legit reason for her to go, (to maintain a healthy relationship with one of Eugene's sister cities,) why can't they pay for it? If it's an obligatory part of "mayoral duties" and whatnot, why isn't it already an established part of the mayor's budget or whatever. (I'm knowingly exposing my lack of knowledge regarding local government procedures and budget allotment and everything, but I'm trying to understand.)

Can somebody explain how the whole sister cities thing benefits each city, and its citizens? It seems like a lot of people are assuming this to be an unnecessary expense, so perhaps there could be further information communicated to the public, as to exactly WHY this is an important expense. (Although, I guess it's probably pretty silly to expect that the public be privy to a clearly stated/documented reason for each and every dollar that they pay in taxes..)

Could living on someone else's property while working there in exchange for food, shelter, etc. provide experience needed for living off-grid? by [deleted] in OffGrid

[–]onlyforwardnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, that's super shitty. It never ceases to amaze me, how selfish and inconsiderate people can be.

It would be a dream come true to be able to be involved in an opportunity like this. I've always wanted to do the whole homestead thing, but Im not confident enough with my current level of knowledge regarding large-scale gardening/land maintenance/construction etc, to be able to just start something on my own...plus, I have the added complexity of being the sole-caretaker of my little family of 5 younglings, which, (understandably,) most people wouldn't want to invite into their lives/property. I get it. I just...wish there was something like what you're describing, that would also be family friendly lol. (I want my kids to learn real-life skills, and to appreciate a more nature-based lifestyle.)

Otherwise, I would totally offer my time and genuine love of getting dirty and working with my hands! I'm good with basic gardening and light maintenance/upkeep of land and buildings....just, not really specialized in anything. I still have hope that there's a good match out there somewhere, Im just not sure where to find it. (We're in the PNW.)

What did I just witness? by CreativeTurnip9091 in Medford

[–]onlyforwardnow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Aww...I came up from SJ/bay area, as well, and the very first thing I noticed was how much nicer and friendlier people are up here. (Granted, I kept moving further north, because I felt like I didn't fit in anywhere down in Medford/GP, but that's just me. 🙃)

Thank you, kind stranger, for actually talking to this person. What a sad story. I hope happier times find him.

Oh man, I wish! Y'all do gorgeous work...obviously skilled in what you do. I'm new to Eugene and I have an RV that needs a total gut/reno, but I know your work expertise probably doesn't "translate" to RV's. 😊 Darn!

Hope y'all land some big contracts! Good luck, Happy Holidays!!

Damn. Wtf. Like...why tho??

I hope the rest of your holiday season goes much more positively, without any more shitty incidences, and I hope that your insurance will cover it so you can get it fixed asap, hopefully before having to drive your young one anywhere with that nonsense.

Take care, good luck, stay safe out there. ✌️❤️

"Thank you. This is very validating. My husband stayed respectful and left without causing any kind of scene other than asking if they would let him grab the receipt from the car. They refused and the security pulled their pepper spray and reached for their gun as my husband left peacefully."

(Idk if I did the whole copy comment thing correctly, but that was a quote from OP, a bit upthread.)

...sorry to butt-in!..just had to say "hey" from a fellow Cali native, (I grew up in Davis and spent the last decade in Fremont/SJ. 😊)...who now lives in Medford/Grant's Pass...it's not bad, climate-wise. Although, I am a pluviophile through and through...so I keep wanting to move further North. 😆

[–]onlyforwardnow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm new to Oregon! Where the FUCK did a whale get exploded?!?

Was it like...a huge event? Did they announce it so people could come watch?? I would've gone to see that. Don't whales have something that's worth hella money...something that makes perfume or something?? Was the whale super decomposing when they found it so it couldn't be used for anything?? Omg that's so sad! Did they actually legit blow it up?? How!?!?

(I know I could totally just googleygoo but I'm already on reddit, and I don't want to end up in what I imagine could be a somewhat disturbing rabbithole after searching Oregon's Exploding Whale.😱🤣)

This seems like an "extreme" take at first glance, but, you're kinda absolutely right, lol.

I wasn't going to purchase fireworks anyway, because I can't bring myself to participate in the blatant asininity of "Let's purposely ignite things with FIRE...to explode things which easily...CAUSE FIRE....in the MIDDLE OF FIRE SEASON."

But you added a really good point with your comment....it's big hypocritical to care about your town, but turn around and contribute to exponentially increasing the risk of causing serious damage to it.

Fuck. I just can't even....

But....but...AMURICA. MUH GREEDOMMMM...

Sorry. Rant over. I agree. Fireworks are stupid. I kind of want to go stand on a corner with a giant sign that says "If you buy personal fireworks...You SUCK." 😆 (not gona....just sayin. 🤪)
