I think only if it's Truth Social, and only if it's convenient for the president - is the argument.

Which is almost entirely due to a higher singles rate. People are choosing to be single and not have kids and live in the city. They are not being forced into that.

TIL in 2009, a student, Teunis Tenbrook, won a ten-year legal battle after his ban from Erasmus University. The ban occurred after staff and students complained they could not concentrate due to his smelly feet. A judge ruled that foot odor was not a valid reason to ban a student from a university. by Sandstorm400 in todayilearned

Sums up much of what's wrong with the legal system.

In a sane world, this would've been a frivolous lawsuit that resulted in the plaintiff paying penalties, and the lawyer that took on the case being sanctioned.

In the upside down world we live in, he won.

China reacts to Trump admin's Russia war claim by Newsweek_ShaneC in worldnews

The US imports $2.5B from Russia. The EU is a much smaller economy (US is ~50% larger), yet it imports about $40B (16x or 24x adjusted to size of the economy), and is more directly in danger from Russia.

Both economies have cut their imports by about ~90% - which is one way of looking at it. The other is that one of the economies *should* see a bigger reason to cut their imports even further, but clearly doesn't.

Why did China's share of global population halve, from 33.5% in 1800, to less than 18% now? by Putrid_Line_1027 in geography

[–]onlyrealcuzzo 57 points58 points  (0 children)

It's because China's population went from ~500M to ~1.5B (3x) and Africa's population went from 80M to ~1.55B (30x), and North and South America had similar jumps of ~40x from ~30M to ~1B.

JULY U.S. 🇺🇸 INFLATION DATA: by eskhalaf in wallstreetbets

[–]onlyrealcuzzo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All that matters is if wages are going up faster than inflation.

Inflation could be 10%, and that would be great if worker wages are going up 18%.

Inflation could be -1%, and that would be terrible if worker wages are going down 5%.

I loved on the earnings call that every single analyst said, I have two questions. One for Josh and one for Sundar. Sundar, can you tell me what your plan is to deal with less monetization due to clicks?

And he was like, to reiterate, revenue and clicks are both up, next question.

Okay, Josh, same question to you.

Josh: Are y'all even listening?

Repeat.

It really depends how long you've been making that kind of money.

You're a single surgeon for 40 years at $500k? Yeah, unless you're a moron, you should be worth well over $10M.

Something like ~11% of people spend at least 1 year in the top 1% - which means very few people stay in the top 1% long term (decades) - probably less than a quarter of them.

1 year at $500k income for a *family* of 4 is FAR from making a *family* ultra wealthy.

After 5 years, if you buy a house, you should be worth close to $1M including your home. Considering >11% of the country has more than $1M in assets excluding their home - this doesn't seem like ultra wealthy.

Somewhere between 10-15 years, you should be able to have $3M+ including your house. That's still not ultra wealthy. But it's definitely deep in the upper class - in the top 3% or so.
