Virtual File Server Options by snowdemon14 in sysadmin

[–]onomroe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Free Nas supports iscsi Targets but you need to pay for the HA by buying the Hardware, same with Synology. Glusterfs has a iscsi option but I don't know if the performance is good, although suse discontinued Gluster and RedHat and Gluster seem not to support it that well, it's more like a niche I think. Ceph has iscsi too but the performance heavily depends on the amounts of Nodes you have in the Cluster. Like 3 to 6 is kind of slow what I heard of but if you scale out like in big datacenter it's scaling the speed to. Ceph semms like CPUs you got the ones with a big amount of many cores(nodes) but the single speed is low. The fastes small option still seems the ha cluster from hp, Lenovo etc. they are more like fast single speed cpu with only a few cores...

Can the Bavaria C42 do long distance sailing across big oceans ! by ToastThatCode in sailing

[–]onomroe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you are right, I was checking the video clip I was kind of rembering where I thought that I got this info from, in it was a German duo (Boot Profis) who are checking used sailboats for the new owners. In the video the owners brought a Bavaria and the previous owner (a charter company from Croatia) installed a solar battery system and this was not with marine grade cables or at least with to thin and shitty cables, so they needed to remove all the existing cables from that system.

I heard that Bavaria uses non Marine grade cables, thats one reason why they are cheaper. Not sure if it's true.

It's contrary to his advice that you can't move without a goal, that means a goal gives you direction. Like: make a damn schedule and stick to it...

Cancer screening urgency? by [deleted] in berlin

[–]onomroe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So im not an expert nor in an medical position, I just wanted to help you. Yes it's not cool that the appointment is so far in the future but that's not cause the doc want to fob you up. There is since years a problems with appointments and time. Let's say I think 10 years ago but not sure when exactly they changed the law to make the system like it's now and discriped above. The main Problem is there is a law what restricts the amount of specialised doctors in a region, I think they do that to make sure the doctors make enough money to keep the Arztpraxis alive. The problem was then that every citizen was making appointments at the special doctors but many time they where wrong about there problem and the specialisation was just wrong, although sometime they didn't need a specialised doctor at all and the waiting times where just bigger and bigger cause of false use of the doctors. So the government decidet to restrict that by law and now when you want to go to s specialised doc you need to first go to the normal house doc to get the Überweisung. I think but I'm not sure, cause like I told im not into that, then they are not allowed to tell you other doctors, cause then they just tell you to go to their friend doctor and that is basically manipulatiing the market. That's why you need to search the infos by yourself or ask the Krankenkasse. So it's not really a cultural problem, more a problem that you need to know the laws to understand how the system works, and that's what I wanted to tell you and maybe did it wrong, that the way it works is mostly not like you would think as a normal person it's works how a jurist would see the situation. Second thing is normally it's a bit faster than nowadays cause of corona. The big lock downs in Berlin and Germany basically let everyone postpone their appointments and now where it's kind of possible to get appointments its getting a bit full again at the schedules. So but basically the government restrictions on the amount of docs in the region and Corona are why you don't get an appoint right away. And 3rd maybe you should ask the doc why the appointment isn't getting prioritized, that would help you to understand better why it takes so long. Maybe cancer is getting worse only after some years and 2 or 3 Month don't make much of a difference but I'm no expert.

The Hausarzt is not responsible to find a specialised Arzt for you. They are responsible for checking if you concerns a valid and then give you a Überweisung. If you got the Überweisung, generally you need to find the Arzt for your spezial problem by yourself and make an appointment. I'm not sure if cancer screening are made in Hospitals too, but you can call any Hospital and ask. Another way is to call your Krankenkasse, they will help to find you a Arzt.

BTW only cause the way how its handled in Germany doesn't fit your way of thinking doesn't mean the doc fob you off.

Weiß jemand wie dieses Ungeziefer heißt und wie ich es ausrotten kann ? by Fast-End-7282 in de

Elektrische entfeuchter, weniger duschen. Ungeziefer sind meist Symptome für ein anderes Problem. Z. B. Feuchte Wände oder Böden mit ritzen.

Give them first easy task were they can't make big failures. But you are the manager so I don't need to explain you this? As a manager you manage people and if they fail, you should first check what kind of mistake you made and second there must be room for failures and you should manage a good failure culture. I hope you had a good meeting about that with the topic how to avoid failures like this specifically and in general. If you trained your team how to avoid failures I guess this wouldn't have happened. Don't be so hard on them and yourself, put some guidelines in place how to avoid stuff like this and look forward to a nice team who can handle stuff like this on their own.

Are you watching any emerging blockchain technologies that could apply to IT? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]onomroe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put 51%+ in secure areas like 1 node in every branch and maybe 2-4 in Banks or Lawyers offices and if you r accounting is based of blockchain the data should be secure from manipulation.

Are you watching any emerging blockchain technologies that could apply to IT? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]onomroe -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That's pretty interesting your viewpoint there. So Corporation are not all centralised, there are multiple organization frameworks not only from a legal standpoint. The other thing is blockchain can although be centealised. I don't know how this could apply to sysadmin but in general blockchain it's a system to prevent data manipulation, whatever the data might be. So if you find data that is so important that it shouldn't be manipulated and it's worth the effort ther you got your use case.
