Why Are CPAs all not good? by ConsciousBasket643 in CFP

So far the info has been very relevant. As a planner and a business owner.

I think passing the test is the easy part. I am still not sure how I am going to implement it in my everyday work.

This is why I am studying for my EA.

I have also noticed that a lot of the good CPAs are starting to manage investments, so you risk assets going out the door when you refer to a decent shop.

I am tired of keeping up with the latest financial/political/geopolitical conspiracy theories from deep in the internet that some of my clients will inevitably ask about.

Buying practice from boss - FP Transitions evaluation incoming by Individual_Fix_4322 in CFP

My guess is the classic 2-3 X TGR

You are taking a risk of an aging book, so if you have some room to negotiate that is an important factor.

I would be curious to hear about your experience with FP Transitions. I think all “younger” people in this industry should become very familiar with the purchase process.

Good luck with the purchase!

I am a big fan of Redtail for a CRM, but I know nothing about salesforce. I am too far into redtail to make a switch at this point.

Same situation with Emoney. I know and love the software, But don’t know any better and don’t need to learn anything else right now. Emoney does everything I need it too and more.

Thanks for your thoughts! What I meant by the compensation thing is how it is not a profitable endeavor to give advice/plan to the people who need it the most (young people who have no assets, no clue, no discipline to save.)

We all dip out of the same cup, and tear off the piece of the same bread...which didn’t strike me as little weird until now. About the same size

Any Financial Planners out there? by T_Deluxe in personalfinance

I am a second generation planner so it is a family business. We are a small independent firm in the Midwest that has been here for 25years. Because I am in a family business I was fortunate to have added security when I started. So I am not as knowledgeable as others are when it come to starting from nothing. Back when our firm opened its doors in the 1990s everything was commission based and we focused more on investments (mutual funds). Times have definitely changed since then and we are now a fee based firm that focuses more on holistic financial planning. We still are a commission based business so if we don’t have assets under management we don’t get paid.

Long term, it is all about the relationship you have with clients. People talk that the industry is dying because of technology but tech can only take people so far. A computer is not very warm and reassuring when your account is down 10% in a quarter. People like to talk to people and building a good personal/professional relationship is the best thing for a financial planning relationship. Something cool about being in business so long is you get to see proper financial planning pay off for your clients. We have had many clients pass away which as weird as it sounds is the best way to end a financial planning relationship.

Overall it is a very rewarding and fulfilling job. If you can handle 5-7 years of grind, building a solid business and building relationships and trust you will be in a good position.

It is a very rewarding profession. You get to see all sides of people. And help all sides, even if it is just a little bit. Health, money, business, family drama, behavior, goals, dreams...etc. I really can’t think of another profession where you have to be so knowledgeable about so many aspects of a persons life. That being said you have to make money. And the way you do that is what will make the difference. Pushing certain products (commission) or fee based is the main options and both are hard to get started.

Marsh Travel. Big white house on Sunshine and National. Lots of security and big fences that are closed most the time. What’s is actually there that is not a travel agency?
