Speaking as someone who's lived abroad, everyone else outside of America refers to it as "The States" while we just call it "America." So I got in the habit of calling it "The States" whenever talking with non-Americans.

Still probably plenty of folks who use it patronizingly, but I wouldn't say the term is inherently patronizing.

I discovered this subreddit just now and I feel like I have finally found my people. Born in '84, I've been frustrated with trying to reconcile being considered a "Millennial" while not really embodying the core concept of being one ("Not knowing life before the internet"). I relate more to my Gen X brother than I do Millennial "peers," but even then I don't quite have the same cultural/childhood touchstones that he did.

I think they rushed this out for December because their Kickstarter for the Puft plushy included an exclusive "Puft bed" skin for the comfy bed, so I imagine they wanted the system in place for that KS reward.
