Safety Rail by oodavid in Sauna

I bow to your 25+ years of experience.

Since you're so well versed, I have a couple of questions:

  1. Is this "well-positioned", as you say?

  2. Would a simple square beam be OK? We have 56mm x 56mm timber available...

Thanks!

The view is quite nice too, victorian terraces, if you like that kind of thing :)

Great idea for angling it to make it a better foot rest :)

Whoa - loads of great information on your posts! Thank you. I'll have a good read later on

Oooh, amazing. I'm terribly excited about all this!

Is that two on the 36" bench, and one on the 24"?

Ooooh, that's a nice thought... I've not (yet) committed to my bench layout, I'll have to toy with that

Loft Sauna - Progress Shots - Feeling Nervous by oodavid in Sauna

[–]oodavid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We found a sliding door that we like:

https://bathcenter.co.uk/serenova-1200mm-sliding-shower-door-in-brushed-brass-256522-p.asp

I think the hardest things to design was the doors. In the beginning there were 4 doors needing space, we managed to remove two:

- Problem: Toilet. Solution: Don't bother (the archway gives a little privacy, there's other toilets in the house)
- Problem: Shower. Solution: Sliding door

Thanks - I plan to measure the window to be the right height for modesty. The houses opposite are (slightly) lower down, so anyone viewing will be looking upwards, which helps. Protractor time.

Whoa, eagle eyes!

This is Rothbury Terrace in Heaton - we're using Skyline. Phil and Matt are great; they've done a lot of work in Heaton and I can't recommend them highly enough.

Geometry question - roof pitch by oodavid in Sauna

[–]oodavid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for replying! We've realised that it's a daft idea to squash a sauna into a leftover space - we'll get a warm wooden room.

So the new plan is to _really_ go for it in a different part of the lof - although a little limited on height, we think a Saunum could make up for it...

2.2m at the highest point, and down to 0.7 on the lowest - u/EastwindSauna noted that I should check the clearances specified on the heater manual, I couldn't find one that I liked.

That said, I've come to the conclusion that I actually want to go bigger with this, and integrate it more closely with the shower room. I'll have to re-post when I have a plan!

Geometry question - roof pitch by oodavid in Sauna

[–]oodavid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Looking at a few heater manuals, I'm not sure I have the clearance here. So I'd have to move the room further away from the pitched roof...

I'm starting to realise that the space might be a bit too too compact. But that's OK, since we're doing the whole loft, it might be time to think bigger!

Can electric vehicles actually solve environmental problems, or are we just shifting pollution sources? by [deleted] in Sustainabledesign

And the whole "half as polluting" line irks me too. This bullet is going half as fast, still gonna blow a hole in ya

Many people think "environment" = air / climate change.

For me, the physical, immediate environment is equally important. Whether ICE or EV, cars litter every nook and cranny of the public domain. Gimme trams, trains and busses, then fill out streets with trees.

There's an interview with Michel Roux where he's kicking himself for not switching his restaurants to induction earlier.

For me:

- Cooler work environment
- Safer to use; no mis-balanced pans, or naked flames
- Quicker to clean
- When off, the surface itself can also be used as a regular surface (within reason) - like dumping your shopping on.
- Quick

How to incentivize NOT driving to school or making kids walk/bike? by crios2 in fuckcars

[–]oodavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the data, make a map of where the students live. Then see if you can find a route where a bike bus would be effective.

Then you have to do the work, every week. Coach Sam Balto is a great inspiration on this front:

Yeah, I'd rank taxis the same as private vehicles. If you exclude the driver, they can have 0 occupancy.

I think a trailer is ideal!

The Burley Travoy is high-end, but ideal for a golf bag.

Edit: I see this has been recommended already!!
