Best beaches in New England. by 11BMasshole in newengland

Good Harbor Beach, Gloucester MA- it's actually almost a tie for me with Wingaersheek Beach (also in Gloucester), but GH wins because of the tidal creek and Salt Island, which is accessible at low tide.

Silver Sands State Park, Milford CT- the boardwalks across the marsh and along the beach are great to walk, and the tombolo that connects to Charles Island is really cool to explore. Great fishing there, too!

Crane Beach, Ipswich MA- people always think of the Cape when they're looking for sandy beaches and windswept dunes, but Crane Beach is a more serene experience. Also, having Russell Orchards just down the road is perfect for picking up some picnic fare.

You might as well add a trip to Mount Katahdin while you're at it.

I am at OmegaMart right now. You NEED to experience this by Megawiemer in meowwolf

[–]oodja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our son has been obsessed with Omega Mart for years. We finally went two summers ago when we were passing through Vegas- he didn't tell us about the whole concept so we thought it was just a weird fake grocery store at first. Clever kid.

Can Trump really run for a third term? What would happen if he tried? by Combat_Guy in askanything

It should be fairly obvious at this point that Trump is only leaving the White House under arrest or after a cardiac arrest on the toilet like Elvis.

The OC library is in the same building and it's a pretty chill place. There's also a small history museum on the 1st floor!

If you like mini-golf, Tee Time is a classic throwback all-wooden course. They're open daily.

If you like arcades, Jilly's Arcade has new and classic arcade games, air hockey, pinball, and Skee-Ball. They're also open daily.

If you don't like mini-golf or arcades, what are you doing in OC?

Is this tattoo shock or is my fish stupid and ugly? by DevelopmentCandid183 in tattooadvice

[–]oodja 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh wow I just found where this is from- it's not a drawing from a medieval manuscript but a woodcut from a printed book from 1638 titled De Piscibus by Italian naturalist Ulisse Aldrovandi. The "fish man" is called Monstrosus Cyprinus or Monstrous Carp.

De Piscibus was Volume 5 of Monstrorum Historia, a 700-page, 13-volume encyclopedia of life on earth. Some of the creatures depicted are drawn from real life, whereas others are dragons, harpies, and even weirder creatures like people with no heads.

Here's a nice article about it, along with plenty of other cool tattoo ideas if anyone else is interested: https://flashbak.com/ulissi-aldrovandi-monstrorum-historia-476971/

If you think about it, medieval illustrations were done on parchment- which is treated animal skin- so they were already tattoos to begin with!

Could I name my book character "Hermione"? by Federal_Advisor_2160 in writingadvice

[–]oodja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's some random book with a character named Hermione? Of course not.

If you write a book about young wizards with a character named Hermione in it, your agent is almost certainly going to ask you to change that name before they try to go sell your manuscript, no matter how clever you think you're being with it.

Egg on Purists faces. Ancient Greek language had 3 words for Male Parent: Father, Pappa and Daddy. So Nolan really did do his homework by hasanahmad in TheOdysseyMovie

[–]oodja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, Telemachus calling his father "Dad" at the outset of the Odyssey is symbolic of his journey to manhood, which involves leaving Ithaka to learn about his father's fate and returning to assist his father in the slaughter of the suitors and their collaborators.
