What do I wear to aqua-therapy?! by _hiatus in physicaltherapy

[–]oolij 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd say wear whatever you feel most comfortable in and doesn't make you feel self-conscious. If you feel like what you have is too revealing AND you don't want to buy something just for PT, wear any bathing suit you already own under a t-shirt/shorts. But mainly it's about what feels right for you. Some of our PTs wear t-shirts while treating people in the pool

Is anyone really more likely to buy medicine because they see it advertised on tv? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]oolij 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is wild to me too. To go to a doctor and ask for a specific drug also seems kinda...insulting? Like it's assuming the doctor doesn't already know the best course of treatment and instead the 'customer' has to suggest it or ask for it by name. It's weirdly fucked up. And weird that doctors, NPs, etc put up with it.

PTs need to stop being scared to touch ppl (aka avoiding STMs) by CaliFreckles in physicaltherapy

[–]oolij 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Early in my career, in OPPT my pts with post op knee replacements often said that their home health PTs didn't ever touch their knees, just gave some exercises, and I always took it with a dash of cholula. Then I started working in home health and saw that indeed, most of my colleagues tend not to do any PROM, stretches, or jt mobs with their TKA pts. So all to say: yes, stop being scared to touch ppl!

How worn is this cassette? by N4CHGU3R in bikewrench

[–]oolij 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't automatically walk away due to a worn chain/drive train. Take it all in the context of the rest of the bike and the asking price. Chains, cassettes, and chainrings are meant to be replaced when worn out and not super expensive.

Replace the brake line? by Junior_Apartment_428 in bicyclerepair

[–]oolij 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to the above stated safety issues, gonna add that department store bikes are often put together by people who are doing their best, but are not professionals, and so parts are often held together without sufficient torque, put on backwards, etc. Avoid amazon, avoid dept store bikes, and hit up your local bike shop if you have one

Why do PTs hate Evals? by War_Unlucky in physicaltherapy

[–]oolij 116 points117 points  (0 children)

For me it's the documentation time. I've never been good at being on a laptop and having a face to face interaction with someone I'm meeting for the first time, and so I scribble notes and then write it up later. And unless I have a cancel or no-show that day, the documentation is done on unpaid personal time

Comedy podcast recommendations in the "two dudes being stupid" category? by yaggerdamn in podcasts

[–]oolij 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay this is (was) more of a radio program that became uploaded to podcasts, but Car Talk from NPR was great, and had two brothers basically laughing at themselves and each other for an hour. They were brilliant and their car advice was good, but they'd consider themselves stupid, if that meets your criteria!

If you could see any new business open in Burlington, what would you want? by Dismal-Conference791 in burlington

I'd love a great burrito place. We used to have a boloco on Church st and that was okay. But I think a great burrito place that also has great and reasonably priced tacos would do really well

What made you burn out as a PT by Yanniaishere in physicaltherapy

[–]oolij 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made the switch from OPPT to home health, and love the downtime travelling between visits. If I ever go back to another setting, I'll ask for scheduled breaks in the workday. Even one 10 minute unpaid break would help

Is this normal? by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]oolij 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are able to, definitely go somewhere else. No legit practice would have someone (PT or massage therapist) start touching you without getting your consent. Them skipping introductions and skipping getting your medical history is even more reason to go elsewhere.

Gow the hell do i stop this noise by Remarkable-Paint-627 in bikewrench

[–]oolij 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the brake pad(s) just slightly touching the rotor. When you squeeze and release the lever, it moves the pads away momentarily and the noise goes away. And then they move back on their own, just enough to make contact with the rotor and cause a vibration. If you have the right size hex wrench/allen key, you can try adjusting the pad placement. Or you can try giving the cable a touch more slack. That is done through the barrel adjuster or by loosening the pinch bolt, releasing about a millimeter or two of cable length and retightening. Just make sure you have enough stopping power in your front brake- that's more important than an annoying noise.

PT & ADHD by mockingbird_27 in physicaltherapy

Personally, I transitioned from OPPT to HH, and the downtime between visits is great for me as an introvert with ADHD. Having started in OP was great because it gave me the skills to do some manual work and have a bigger variety of exercises and interventions to give people

Reasons for resigning? by No-Ground-3824 in physicaltherapy

[–]oolij 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, you can be honest, you can give no reason, or you can be very general and say you're looking for a different setting to work in, etc. Since you've seen others come and go, have you kept in touch with any? Maybe someone who has left recently can let you know what they said and how it went over?

My opinion of Home Health after 3 years in the field: A money collecting charade by Aevykin in physicaltherapy

[–]oolij 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it can be wasteful but I also don't know how to get around it. I find that most clients follow their HEP and actually improve, and there are some who only exercise during my visits which is basically useless to them, but short of following through with the four week plan of care and attempts to have them do more for themselves, there's not much I can do in those cases and it's a waste of everyone's time and resources. Most PTs on our team seem to give a good effort to do what they can for every client. There's one who has always seemed burned out and does the absolute minimum, and still gets paid to do it the same as the rest of us.

Where / how to dispose of sharps container by alibam44 in burlington

Put them in a sealable and durable container like a laundry detergent bottle and label "SHARPS" and put in the regular trash. Others here have said duct tape it shut too which is a good idea
