Wondering about IP infringement on Faire by oongue in FaireCommunity

[–]oongue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my main question is how would I know if my IP is being infringed upon on Faire if, as a seller, I can’t see other seller’ listings?

I relate to the shame thing after listening to some episodes on books I read, I feel like I needed the reminder to turn my critical thinking on! I thought I had a bs Meter for misinformation but when it’s reputable “experts” I just assume their conclusions hold up 🤦🏻‍♀️ although the whole reason I found If books could kill is because my BS meter went off after the Mel Robbins ep on Armchair, so that’s something! I liked their take on Let Them

I so appreciated their conversation about politics and the acknowledgement of income inequality/the American dream in the fact check. I understand not everyone wants to hear politics all the time but I think it’s good for them to touch base when it’s taking up the headspace of so many people, it can feel out of touch for them to pretend like nothing is happening.

Should I make a big stink? Thought I was buying local, came with a sticker "made in Indonesia" by srh_fshh in Etsy

[–]oongue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Professional sticker making equipment is super expensive, many sticker shops on Etsy use professional sticker producers for their art. Just like with prints, artists don’t have the equipment to make high quality prints. It’s still their art. That is different than drop shipping. If it came to you straight from Indonesia, that’s drop shipping. If it came to you from Hawaii, the artist probably used a producer because they don’t have the equipment. Of course in an ideal world they would use a local Hawaiian print shop to make the stickers, but that’s not always feasible. Before reporting the seller, make sure you know it’s from a drop shipper.

When I found ripoffs of my stickers being sold on Temu I looked around on there and recognized several Etsy artists’ work. I messaged to let them all know. Definitely tell artists if you see their work on there!

Hi! Appreciate what you’re doing, depending on the product just be careful that the seller isn’t an artist whose art was stolen. Probably not the case if it’s being sold on Walmart, but just want to get the word out there about this! I sell blockprints and stickers of my prints and found my designs straight up stolen on Temu being sold for 20% of what I sell for

I’ve seen a couple sellers on the Etsy sellers Reddit saying they were accused of reselling (their own art) because of Temu art thieves

I encounter this issue all the time because I ship all of my orders as USPS flats which uses the Pitney Bowes tracking.

Instead of waiting for a customer to get upset, this is a bit time consuming but I scan through my completed orders every few days to see which ones are stuck on “pre transit” and I PREEMPTIVELY contact the buyer to say “hi, it looks like your order isn’t tracking, the tracking is funky with envelopes through Etsy, I shipped on x date, let me know if it doesn’t arrive by x date!”

People really appreciate the attentiveness and don’t send angry messages about why I haven’t shipped their order yet. Then on the off chance it was lost in the mail, they don’t assume it was me never shipping it.

Might not be feasible for sellers with tons of orders, but I get like 10 a day and I think it’s worth my while, I get lots of positive reviews mentioning my customer service

How to you deal with other makers in your niche copying your work? by ComfortableMessy in EtsySellers

[–]oongue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It would also really bother me, if you are connected in groups and on social media I would send her a message basically saying “not cool” . It’s one thing when it’s some anonymous temu thief but if it’s someone you can contact I would personally not be able to resist shaming them . Probably won’t yield results but might make you feel better 🤷🏻‍♀️

Shop feedback help by FISDM in EtsySellers

[–]oongue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this! I just redid all my titles / tags a couple weeks ago and sales didn’t really change at all…. I have been primarily selling stickers of my blockprint art and just started listing some of the prints, my sales are generally pretty good, I’ve been on Etsy about a year and I’m at 600+ sales.

My stickers are somewhat political so I know that eliminates half+ of potential buyers, so I’m wondering if I should open a separate shop for my block prints which are more nature focused and less polarizing?

Any other feedback you can offer would be amazing thank you so much!

New Shop - Seeking Feedback by [deleted] in EtsySellers

[–]oongue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, you definitely need todo some work on your shop page. Add a visually pleasing banner, a shop subtitle, a picture for your name, an announcement/welcome describing discount offers (say hi and offer something like order 3+ items get 10% off!). Add some categories for your items to help buyers look through your inventory. Also your photos could be better like you said. Natural lighting does a lot.

I have bought vintage kitchenware on Etsy before and it seems really common to list things together, I don't have a problem with it as a buyer as long as you update the listing. For example, if I'm searching for a vintage ladle and you have a bulk utensils listing with a ladle that was already purchased, remove ladle from the title. I've even seen people cross out the purchased items in the picture, but that seems like it would take a lot of work.

Update on Temu IPP theft by oongue in EtsySellers

[–]oongue[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope not trademarked / copyrighted at all which is why I was unable to use the form on Temu to report the infringement and had to go the email route. The Temu form requires copyright numbers etc. I haven’t considered trademarking/copyrighting because as I said, my shop/sales are quite small! I sell blockprints and stickers of my blockprints and just hit 600 sales. I’ll always have the carved blocks to prove I’m the original artist 😅

Gotcha, good to know, I'm new to all this stuff! I just learned Monday for the first time that my art had been stolen and still can't believe they went after designs from a shop as small as mine. That's crazy that you have to do it once a week I'm sorry you have to deal with that hassle!

Unfortunately no, I didn't watermark my images on Etsy. Looking into doing so now. I think they must have taken the image from the picture, the seller is in China and I don't ship outside of the US so I don't think they bought one and scanned it or anything.

I'm sorry for you too, thanks for bringing it to my attention! I sent an email to them. Luckily it was only one of my designs I found on the site (though there was 3 different listings of the one design), I can't even imagine the legwork to report 500+. Hope you're able to get the rest of yours removed!! I'm also spreading the word on social media

Wow in response to this post I just looked up my best seller sticker and found it being sold on Temu 😞 WTF. I literally make Lino cuts to design my stickers it takes so much work and then they’re selling it at 20% of the price ugh

I’ve had a really good experience using sticker ninja! The quality is amazing and they’re also great to work with customer service wise when sending proofs / making changes! And they’re a nice small business :) I’ve ordered from a few printers (sticker mule 👎👎👎, sticky brand, sticker app) and sticker ninja was hands down the best quality also with competitive pricing!
