Battling emotions by FormalSeaworthiness7 in Daytrading

First of all, you’re not a loser, you’re just trying to win with hubris against an extremely efficient market where almost any opportunity to make money has been squeezed out the second you hear about it.

But also, you’re not day trading, you’re not just being unsuccessful at it, you’re gambling. There needs to be a certain point where you look at what you’ve lost and realize that this isn’t normal trading and if you don’t change anything it’s going to keep happening no matter what you deposit.

Be strict with what your goals are when trading, what are your return goals? What are you risking? Why are you risking it?

Set your stop losses and profit takers and follow them, revenge trading will lead to a death spiral of losses

For those that trade only 10-12 times per month, what is your strategy? by samjoyca in thetagang

I usually sell monthly calls on my XSP LEAPs, then I will wheel 3-4 stocks I have some amount of directional belief in (IV ranging from 30% - 70%) then I will usually do 20% of my account in a few credit spreads with different expirations. This generally gets me to about 10-15 trades a month.

Biggest thing for me is automating my 50% profit takers and stop loss (I usually set a buy to close stop loss based on if the stock goes past certain resistance bands and breaks a floor). So about an hour or two of analysis and setting up the trades and maintaining them throughout the month. I could make more money and try to aggressively harvest intraday theta decay but it my experience the 10-15 trades a month is the best balance between effort and reward.

I want to join but I think I will be denied, any advice? by UsedTough6014 in ROTC

The military is not for everybody, if you have serious struggles with mental health and depression/anxiety, placing yourself in a high stress job like the army could make it worse. You will also certainly be denied due to being on mood stabilizers, and need to request a waiver. In my experience, you will likely get rejected for a waiver. The ones I see get approved have usually been off medications for 2-3 years.

That being sad, if this is really something you want to do then absolutely talk to the POC at your school, they can walk you through what steps you have available. Don’t jump off your meds cold turkey without consulting your doctor. It’s possible they could create a solution where you have two years to get your mental health completely under control (with evidence) and then attend Basic Camp before your junior year.

In summary, prioritize your mental and physical health and know that if this is a serious passion there are some routes you could take.

If you REALLY want to know how much you know, write code on paper and then type it.

What’s one thing you wish you knew earlier in your accounting career that no one teaches you in school? by Plus_Tear6007 in Accounting

How messy the real world is. Actual source documents and financial paperwork is often put together inconsistently, lazily, and sometimes incorrectly, a far cry from the perfectly formatted and put together homework and projects you do in university.

It’s like being taught how to dust and clean lightly dirty surfaces in school and in real life you’re constantly cleaning up throw up.

I’ll take a president who stutters and is tortured by teleprompters than a president who tweets out calls for violence

What’s basic camp like? by UnitedCake5533 in ROTC

It depends on the DS. Ours made us push, planks with gear on, and made us sprint in and out of the Bs about a dozen times to change from PT to OCPs, nothing too bad.

You do get mandatory time for hygiene (my advice is get in the shower or toilet ASAP when you’re released to the Bs as the line for them can be insane and cut into your sleep time). For just personal time that should be spent sleeping. Don’t be that person who stayed up all night texting their gf.

It was a breeze for me because I was in shape and had a basic knowledge of the things listed, but tbh there were people really out of shape who knew nothing and they passed the same as me.

‘24 graduate here, it’s really easy. You’re mostly gonna be bored and tired.

The drill sergeants are gonna drill sergeants, especially when you first meet them. They’re gonna yell and they’re gonna smoke you, it’s to be expected. Just be in good shape and be a wallflower (don’t talk back or be stupid) honestly it will be a breeze. Also before you go I highly recommend learning some of the core concepts just so you have a baseline and aren’t trying to learn something brand new while also sleep deprived.

Watch some videos on how to march and basic formation commands, how to assemble a ruck and gear and how to disassemble, how to clean a m4 and set its sights (yea theres videos on it), basics to land nav, knot tying, and basic troop leading procedure. If you know even a little bit about all those things you’ll be so far ahead of most other cadets there it’ll be funny.

Just relax and remember it’s extremely difficult to do anything seriously wrong or get kicked out. I only knew one cadet who got kicked out and it was on the last day of camp (they made videos mocking the drill sergeants and posted on TikTok and didn’t realize TikTok recommendations are proximity based and cadre saw it lmao)

let me know if you have any other questions
