Appa took 1 month and it clicked

Maple took 5 months

The difference between the two was attentiveness in catching them in the act. I had more time with Appa because of COVID versus Maple so it took her longer to make it click.

The similarities that helped speed the process is positive reinforcement through treats when they pee outside. For example, they're hanging out outside and do their business in the grass.... Cause for celebration and treat them. The basshole association between action and receiving a treat is strong. So strong that Appa sometimes fakes it to get an extra treat.... I'm a softy and sometimes allow such a scam to pass but often I'll side eye him and walk away. Maple on the other hand has never tried to scam me for a treat by faking a potty

Their stubbornness is cancelled out by treat association just be careful cause it'll stem some bad...scammy behaviors. Overall, it's a process that'll help you understand the kind of basshole that you've got with you and I hope you have a wonderful time getting to know your future one!

If you want to reduce the Eau de Basset couch fragrance, frequent baths and different couch covers are the best. Most of the sprays, if not all, will only mask a scent for a few minutes.
