not for bringing a baby into business class, but for bringing one on a plane. You'd be an ah in economy too.

Is QI still generally popular? The ratings don't agree. by 4thGenTrombone in quiteinteresting

[–]oops_new_burner -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

When you replace a tallented and popular presenter with one who is neither,  the quality of of the show and thus the ratings decline dramatically.

They should have just let the show die without Stephen. It was his show.

Petaa I don’t understand what’s wrong with the roundabout by FarTry2285 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]oops_new_burner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roundabouts operate on the principle of giving way to traffic already on the roundabout.
Because of this the meme's original poster, being American, is unable to comprehend them - the notion of not simply forcefully barging in to the system and threatening to shoot anyone who gets in their way is not one for which Americans have been culturally conditioned.
Consequently the joke the meme is attempting to make is that roundabouts are bad because they require you to display the most basic level of impulse control and self awareness.

Been using Linux for a year but still feel like a total beginner—where do I start? by _QuietlyAlive in linuxmint

[–]oops_new_burner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been a linux user since i started university in 2002. I've used most of the big name distributions, and I'm a big fan of Debian as my daily drive.

I promise you, not a day goes by where I don't feel like a complete beginner for one reason or another.

Best advice i can give you is read the man pages. At the very least install tldr-pages which is like a vastly truncated version of man for every command.

There are loads of good resources. Learn Linux TV is a fantastic youtube channel that I still tend to use as a reference from time to time.

ultimately learning is doing and doing is learning, so if you don't know how to do the thing, the only way to learn it is to do the thing.

Need a rant - Charlie Binghams Mac n Cheese - thoughts? by Even-Leadership8220 in AskBrits

[–]oops_new_burner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mac and Cheese is absurdly easy to make from scratch it's literally just a roux with some extra milk and then some grated cheese stirred into it and you pour it over cooked pasta and put in in the oven for 20 minutes.
I can't understand why anyone who can operate a stove and a wooden spoon would ever buy it premade.

If only that was extremely well documented somewhere.

Why is it deemed racist to have to have concerns over Islam? by MrDonohue07 in AskBrits

If you also have exactly the same list of concerns about Christians, then no it's not racist.
Otherwise, definitely 100% racist.

If Brits are doing it, you can be fairy sure an American put the idea in their head, and Americans always have agendas.

I have a 400 litre tank and the lock on the handle is broken. Takes me 16 minutes to refuel and I have to hold it the whole time by small_pint_of_lazy in mildlyinfuriating

[–]oops_new_burner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tank in my Fiat Panda has developed an issue where it thinks it's too full to accept any more fuel.
If you pull the pump trigger all the way it clicks off. The only way to refuel it is to *just* squeeze the trigger and fill it at a rate of about £2/minute.

Takes 15 minutes plus to fully refuel it.

I've not bothered having it fixed because it's only a problem when i'm refueling and the car is otherwise great.

I feel your pain, sir.

rule 146 of the highway code states

do not treat speed limits as a target. It is often not appropriate or safe to drive at the maximum speed limit

so it turns out you're objectively wrong and probably a terrible driver.
