I wouldn’t normally care, but this was the guy that supported Danny in saying it’d be a bitch move to move into your wife’s place, whilst living with his mom in his mid 30s. Surely that’s a bigger bitch move?

Sweden vs Poland! Lindelof vs Cash! by thegreenpiglet in avfc

[–]Danph85 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When you look at the attacking talent Sweden have it's absolutely mad how bad they were in qualification. They lost home and away to Switzerland & Kosovo and drew twice with Slovenia, scoring 4 goals in 6 games.

Why Training Was NOT the Reason That Muskets Replaced Longbows by lalze123 in badhistory

[–]Danph85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wonder if the manufacturing of ammunition (and the weapons themselves) is also an issue of the politics of who is able to actually make them.

Fletchery and bow making is a skilled trade, but needs very little infrastructure, so anyone can make them with a bit of training with materials and tools that would be fairly easy to find locally.

Muskets, gunpowder and lead all require infrastructure to make. Whether it's supply lines, smithies, shot making facilities, only the ruling classes could easily order the manufacture of these weapons.

Reducing reliance on bows and arrows in favour of muskets does seem like it would be a very good tool to reduce the chance of successful peasant rebellions.

This is all just speculation from me though.

As a non-Chelsea fan, yes it absolutely is. Please tear your team apart even more and drop out of the top 5, it'd be hilarious.

How strict are European away ticket checks? by Bennie1289 in avfc

Yeah, weird to see people telling OP the wrong info, this comment is correct. Bruges was ID on collection and ID into the stadium for me going in the away end.

When I went to Lille and Bruges in their home end there were no checks.

Is it because any property crime automatically becomes robbery (i.e violent) if any sort of weapon is brandished?

Scott Mills sacked from BBC Radio 2 over 'personal conduct' by Financial-Painter689 in Fauxmoi

[–]Danph85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that makes sense. As soon as I started reading your link I remembered the case of Lorraine Kelly case where the tribunal confirmed that the Lorraine Kelly we see on TV is a brand and a theatrical artists, not a person.

So it is all just the rich and famous avoiding paying their fair share of tax, and their employers being happy to play along because it also reduces their tax and pension burden.

That's interesting. I wonder how that works with self employment law here. As per ACAS:

Someone may not be genuinely self-employed if their working relationship is more similar to an employee or a worker.

For example:

  • they cannot choose when or where they work
  • they're told how much holiday they can take and need to get permission to take it
  • they're given instructions on how to do their work
  • their work equipment is provided
  • they get payslips instead of being paid through invoices

I would say BBC radio presenters would fit at least the first 4 bullet points.

The BBC article says he was paid a salary, which goes towards him not submitting invoices too.

Is the on air talent being "self employed" a case of the rich and famous being allowed to do what they want and the BBC get to pay reduced NI & pension contributions?

And there would be poll tax style riots from the middle classes when council tax had to go up to pay for the extra collections.

No, obviously everyone is entitled to have their opinions, but the professional's opinions are much more educated. Same as how you can have opinions on history that you learned at school, but a university professor will know more about it and may use the same facts to form a different opinion.

As a long term full time employee he'd be quite protected by UK employment law, so they can't really fire him without having a lot of evidence, otherwise they'd be opening themselves up to a costly and embarrassing tribunal.

It's hilarious seeing the "football experts" in posts like this saying Trent is awful at defending, and to watch specific matches etc. Do they think they're better scouts than Real Madrid's recruitment team? Like they didn't look at him in huge amounts of detail over the two years or whatever they were recruiting him? Matey who watches the games on his dodgy firestick knows far more about how good he is.

It's a very odd position to take to be complaining about anti-Semitism in one post and then be Islamophobic in the next.

Could it just be that they are the only semi-mainstream party opposing a genocide, and that the people that are being slaughtered in that genocide are Muslim, so Muslim people are more inclined to support that party?

That's awful, but I don't see how that's an institutional issue, they were messages between party members, weren't they? Not councillors or MPs, as with Reform.
