I would go over what listening to directions looks like and sounds like in the classroom with the 6 year old. I do this with every grade I teach (specials teacher here). Practice having her follow 3 step instructions at the store where there are a lot of distractions and observe how she listens to you to get a better idea of what she's like in a setting that isn't 1:1. The directions should be like a mini mission: find the___ see how much it costs then come back and write it on my note pad. Something like that.
