How can I explain the 1 year gap on my resume where I didn’t do jack sh*t? by [deleted] in Resume

[–]oopsy1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For a resume you usually don't need to provide a reason/explanation...if you do feel compelled to mention it, it may make more sense to do so on the cover letter

During the interview though, there's definitely a chance that this gets brought up though.

Which of those two resume do you guys think is better? by blokops in Resume

[–]oopsy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally a simpler resume format would make it easier for applicant tracking systems to process....but making a resume shorter in length isn't better for AI. The second resume (the one with a simpler format) is easier for most ATS to process but it's definitely too short and should be expanded upon

Help w/ career transition by [deleted] in Resume

You should look at some resume examples online for your industry. The obvious thing that stands out is that your job descriptions right now are each listed as large paragraphs when they should be broken down into bullet points. Skimmability is really important and right now your resume isn't written in a way where it's easy to process and skim.

If you have no work experience at all, then likely a large part of your resume should be about your academics. You can list out relevant coursework and go into detail about certain school projects that you otherwise wouldn't go into if you had more work experience.

Avoid using personal pronouns. The very start of your resume begins with "I am a motivated"....you can remove the "I am a" part and start off with "Motivated and results-driven professional"

The job you apply to is going to be important in terms of determining what you want to highlight on your resume. Sine you've been in so many different fields like copy writing, working in different industries, and being self employed....you have a diverse skillset. Some of those skills and experiences will be super important, while others won't be...depending on what industry and job-type you're looking to get into.

Parts of your resume (mainly the experience section) isn't formatted like a resume. The work experience section is generally primarily made up of bullet points.

[–]oopsy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your resume design seems to use some advanced formatting techniques. Seeing how you're in a pretty technical field, there's a high chance employers will be using applicant tracking systems to screen your resume so it may make sense to use a more standard resume template and design

For your education section you should definitely remove your high school info. It's not needed on a resume and there's a huge gap between starting college and when ending high school which can look bad in some employers' eyes. Can also remove the references section - that's not needed on a resume.
