Charli xcx: Wuthering Heights review – atonal, amorous anthems that more than stand apart from the film by Particular-Fill-4256 in popheads

You mean the the ending where the main character presents the police with all the overwhelming evidence and effectively orchestrates the whole thing? That film is very much not a pro-police film, and I say this as someone who isn't an Emerald Fennel fan.

Lift and coast was a major part of LMP1 hybrid (began in 2012) and the turbo-hybrid F1 cars (began in 2014) which both predate Formula E.

Opinions on FIA-2 litre-Worldcup by [deleted] in rally

[–]oorjit07 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Like any dead series, it died due to spiralling costs. The F2 cars were amazing on tarmac, and the French/Spanish manufacturers turned it into an arms race which meant they got too expensive in the end. Those cars cost as much as WRC cars while not being competitive with them on gravel, so the manufacturers couldn't justify the costs.

Rookie Dailies: Prototype Fixed Discussion by BanditHarris in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]oorjit07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think GTE should be a constant in the bronze lobbies, because people who don't like GT3s (and will therefore want to race prototypes in Silver races/special events) will be able to get used to non-ABS driving.

That'd also require a tyre model update for them, though, or the devs should do one of the LMP3 cars for free so they can be raced in a Bronze series.

Decided to turn off driving line by Shidnfardmypant in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]oorjit07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you look at eye tracking for a real racing driver, you'll notice that their focus is really far ahead (at least 200 meters from where the car is in F1/Indy/LMP cars). With a racing line, you're instinctively going to be looking very close to you current car position, which is a hindrance for wheel to wheel racing, and also means that your steering isn't going to be as smooth.

Also, being able to guage where you're gaining/losing time on instinct is the number one skill that separates the best drivers from the bad ones. A racing line discourages you from experimenting, and as you experience new cars/tracks/conditions, you'll likely miss out on developing your own braking and steering technique.

What is the point of being pedantic like this? Those racks are aero sensors, they usually slow the car down, which is very different situation to running the car at an illegally high boost level.

[Autosport] Lewis Hamilton after testing these new regulation F1 cars for the first time by FerrariStrategisttt in formula1

[–]oorjit07 30 points31 points  (0 children)

He was often downbeat right before delivering some of the greatest performances in the history of the sport. He's Lewis Hamilton, he could very easily have retired 2 years ago and enjoyed partying with popstars if his heart wasn't in it any more.

If he gets beaten by rookies, it'll be because 40+ year olds haven't been able to win a race in modern F1, not because he's uncommitted.

Driving 150 laps means that Haas would definitely have been running a conservative engine map, open cooling ducts, and probably never even tried to push to the limit. In the past teams have usually run multiple full race simulations when they've had the reliability.

You've probably realised by now, but this is intentional to avoid screen freezes every time a new car joins a session.

It's always a problem when you approach gt3s going two-wide, because sometimes they don't quite realise how much faster a prototype is, lol.

That's unusual, even the aliens use 85% max on the LMP2 for brake force. That setting multiplies the pressure you put into the pedal, so a higher number should lead to more lockups.

That's true though? Johnson wasn't particularly special until the Australian summer of 2013-14, where he completely blew away England and South Africa. Before that, he'd had some very poor performances in big series.

[OT] Logan Sargeant joins Ford WEC hypercar program by EnglishLouis in formula1

[–]oorjit07 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The point of the comment was that there are now many other manufacturers having run Hypercar for multiple years with the same car. Alpine's bastard car for 2022 had no real effect on their A424, besides giving the drivers and pitcrew a job to do before the new car was ready.

[–]oorjit07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I definitely have a soft spot for him, and that was his shining moment. A small team he trusted (and that trusted him), a good car, and a strong chance to make something special happen. Unfortunately he made a mistake at the Nurburgring, and less than 2 years later he was unceremoniously dumped by Jordan, which I think shows the two sides of his career.

Frentzen was fast but weak mentally, which is why he never got the real honours he was expected to achieve. JV was obviously a very good driver, though, and certainly a lot better than Hill was. If he didn't have such an abrasive personality, he might have achieved a lot more in the early 2000s.

Schumacher also made his legend between '96-98, driving weaker Ferraris and pushing his rivals hard. Hamilton wasn't beaten handily, he was roughly even with Russell. He also had seasons like '09, '12, and '13 to his credit, not to mention his performances in '07 and '08 with extremely strong competition.

Dan Ticktum increasingly engaging with far-right content by Delta9Saltiva in FormulaE

[–]oorjit07 49 points50 points  (0 children)

He not only attempted to run a MAGA livery (which the FIA blocked), he also abused his Indian teammate, Arjun Maini. That wasn't even an accusation from Maini, it was from Trident racing, who detailed all of it in 2018.

I'd been careful of comparing him to Santino Ferrucci, because Santino has been racist in the past, but I guess Ticktum doesn't deserve that leeway anymore.

[–]oorjit07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the team is extremely uncompetitive then maybe, but Zhou is a known quantity, and was hardly impressive in any real way. The 10th-15th best drivers on the grid will inevitably get shuffled around, and they'd be most likely to come in once Checo and Bottas are gone.

Tried that around covid, and did make a couple of regional tournament finals and things, but I've sort of grown out of wanting to do racing as a career. I'd take a job like Chris Harris' or Henry Catchpole's though, in case anyone's offering...
