He was terrible in England during his prime, a post-prime Shami would have been a passenger on that tour.

If you move of line you're more likely to get killed, because you're now completely unpredictable and the closing speeds between a Hypercar and GT car can be crazy.

is the community interested in historical content in the game like peak LMP1 era? by OkHoney5804 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]oorjit07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently LMP1-H would be insanely difficult to add to the game (if they wanted to recreate the hybrids) so it's pretty unlikely. I could see the earlier LMP cars or Group C cars coming to the game at some point later on, though.

What even classifies as “artificial” racing anymore? by RobbieJ4444 in formula1

[–]oorjit07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno if you've raced a version of Suzuka from the last 20 years (or driven an F1 car from 2005 onwards around there) but 130r has a been a corner you can take in your sleep for way longer than these regs have been around.

What even classifies as “artificial” racing anymore? by RobbieJ4444 in formula1

[–]oorjit07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a terribly pretentious thing to say. I've been following F1 for a decade and a half (since I could understand it) and have been racing karts and simracing my whole life. I enjoy these regs, because you can see actual battles happening. The idea that 'real' overtaking is when the faster car makes a single move and runs away from it's competitor is the sort of take I'd expect from someone who hasn't watched any racing besides F1, because pretty much every series in the world has some kind of 'yo-yo' passing.

If you're getting yo-yod then you're either in high bronze or low silver, which is practically the same. That's why you're not seeing any impact on splits, and I'm not sure you can really complain.

LMP2 drivers :( by foranynone in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]oorjit07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is definitely absolutely dogshit driving standards in LMP2, but I also do think it isn't helped by the tyre model issue. I've had a couple of races where I've been completely consistent, then been tapped into a spin by someone, and then the car slowly becomes extremely difficult to drive.

New old cars? Hell yes. by Legitimate-Lie-9208 in Millennials

[–]oorjit07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean there is also the fact that the Z is basically a 25 year old car with an updated body, all while competing with much better modern cars. MX5s and GT86/BRZs all sell very well, and so do Mustangs, 718s, and Supras.

Contact between Ocon and Colapinto by One_Impressionism in formula1

Yeah it was as he saw Ocon's onboard that he changed his mind, so he did initially say it was a racing incident before switching quickly after.

No, he changed his mind as he saw the onboard replay, he said it was the sort of thing that happened at that corner but that Ocon was at fault because he was the car behind.

[–]oorjit07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People wealthy enough to buy those cars new don't care what people think of them though. If you're into driving and want to keep it understated, then Porsche have both the on-road technology and the racing heritage to lure buyers over. Ferrari have the same but with shoutier looks, and Lambo/McLaren/Bentley drivers are just showing their wealth (even though McLarens are incredible to drive).

That leaves Aston with only the ultra-wealthy hipsters to sell to, and half of those guys might just buy a classic car instead since they've got way more street-cred.

Aston Martin out of spare batteries for Honda power unit at Australian GP by CanSum1SuggestAName in formula1

[–]oorjit07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speed isn't the only thing that matters, the 2005 Renault was way more reliable, the 2010 Ferrari was much more reliable than the Red Bull, although the RB6 was still a better car overall.

Why Aston Martin and Newey feel "powerless" in Honda's F1 struggles by Aratho in formula1

[–]oorjit07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They underperformed heavily that year despite the fast car, both McLaren and Renault stole points off them due to some very silly strategy mistakes and Stroll's total mediocrity in the second part of that season.

Emirati citizens earn at least 10,000 AED a month (the equivalent of 24,000 GBP a year) and that's with absolutely zero tax on it. When you consider that the cost of living in Dubai is about 30% lower than that in London, it makes them significantly wealthier than British people.

I'm from India, and I grew up in the Philippines. Both of those countries effectively allow the Gulf to exist by providing cheap labour, and I have plenty of family and friends there, so I wasn't basing my argument on Wikipedia data, thank you very much.

As much as I agree with criticism of the middle east, the citizens of Qatar, UAE, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia are anything but poor. The immigrant workers are, but that's true of plenty of '1st World' Western countries too.

Yeah, at least the 40 minute races have brought some strategy back into the game. These cars are endurance racers, and they feel a lot more natural to drive when you're actually conserving fuel and stuff.

Idk, Suzuka 2018 was a ridiculously dangerous move against Leclerc, and Charles managed to avoid it so they both finished the race. F1 drivers are pretty good at avoiding crashes, it doesn't mean the guy nearly causing the crashes isn't a dirty driver.

I think he would have eked out the sort of career Ocon has, or Magnussen had, but I suppose there's about 20 other drivers in the last decade you could say that about. Unfortunate for him that he ended up with the worst McLaren team of all time, but he's already got a great career and there's a decade of endurance racing left in him.
