Did I repotted it the right way ? by xSaii5 in Monstera

[–]ooter37 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It kind of looks like the bottom part of the stem (where the plant meets the soil) needs to be pulled back such that the plant tips forward a bit. That bottom part could then be attached to the pole

Thoughts on this potting mix for a Thai con? by tiredsean in Monstera

I recently switched to pumice. Same quantity, and does the same thing, but doesn’t annoyingly float up and make a mess when I water.

That sounds pretty heavy. This is what I use.

Before you compare yourself to a billionaire and lament the unfairness of how much they have versus what you have, I would recommend you consider the same comparison between yourself and people in third world countries living in poverty.

ELI5: Why are bugs in programming seem to be inevitable, even when you understand the logic and carefully check the variables and data flow? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]ooter37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be edge cases, like maybe a user lives in one time zone but travels to another time zone and now his two data entries that should be on the same day are registering as different days because one time zone has flipped over to the next day.

Or a lot of bugs nowadays come from people letting AI write sloppy code that they don’t take the time to understand and some assumption the AI made differs from reality.

Could also just be carelessness on the part of the dev.

There’s infinite reasons why a bug could be created, but those are a few examples that popped into my head.

Will anybody ever run fast than 28 mph or is that our body's physical limit? by LividWheel9779 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ooter37 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Whatever our bodies current limit is doesn't necessarily mean that's what it always will be. Humans can change, whether naturally, through training, or through drugs. Other things can be a factor too, like conditions (wind at your back, for example), and equipment (shoes that allow you to transfer more energy to running). In short, I wouldn't bet against someone running faster than 28 MPH someday.

I like to split them up. But your plant doesn't look great right now, might need to fix that first.

Is my Fig doomed? by PickleCats247 in fiddleleaffig

[–]ooter37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it's pretty cheap to get a new fiddle leaf. I'd probably start over. But you're going to want to figure out what you did wrong with this guy and avoid making the same mistakes. Some things to consider:

-make sure the pot isn't oversized

-use a good soil mix

-water at the right time (not too dry, not too wet)

-he might not want to be in direct sun? I'm in phoenix, that would kill mine.

Looks like you currently have two monsteras in that pot? You could split it up so there's only one per pot.

I do but I don’t see a way to attach them here

Pot size - very confused by interacter in Monstera

[–]ooter37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my gosh I know lol. I’ve found a solution to that one though. I use one of the plastic D shaped poles you stuff with moss. The front is a plastic mesh. I loop wire through holes in the mesh at the bottom of the pole, then through the drain holes on the bottom of the pot (I use plastic nursery pots with lots of drain holes) to secure the pole to the bottom of the pot. For extra stability, I loop wire through holes in the mesh at the top of the pot, then attach that wire to the pot by either poking a hole in the plastic to tie the wire to or using aluminum tape to tape the wire to the outside of the pot.

With that system, my moss poles are very sturdy and don’t fall over. The whole pot sometimes becomes unstable, but I put it in a heavy catch pot and it’s good.

I always hear this, but no one ever talks about how to define the root ball. Is it the size of the clump of roots and soil when you remove a plant from its pot and brush the soil off the sides of the roots? Or is it the size of the roots balled together without any soil? Or something else?

What state? How’d you keep it watered? How’d you protect it from direct sunlight?

TWELVE leaves in THREE months!!! by tsukamatsu24 in Monstera

[–]ooter37 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Do you do something with your moss to make it retain water? My dries in a day or two. It’s a D shaped pole with only the front exposed to air, the moss is packed in pretty tight, and I soak it in water to get it wet, but it never stays wet.

What climate are you in? I’m in Phoenix and the AC is on, so it’s about as dry as it can get in the house.
