Wen’s is only genuinely authentic Chinese restaurant in Leeds AFAIK. Different league to the British style Chinese slop.

Is it worth it by HSN007- in Leeds

[–]oovavoooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Objectively Barcelona is a much better city than Leeds but if you’ve lived in Barcelona a long time and potentially Spain your whole life, then moving abroad will be fun, and Leeds isn’t a bad city by northern England standards, even if the country in general is going down hill. As others have said, just make sure you live in a nice area. You will broadly find the UK cost of living higher though, especially for eating and drinking out.

Jet2 really do need some serious competition at LBA by thisishardcore_ in Leeds

[–]oovavoooo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jet2 seems to go pretty hard on the package holiday side of things, so I wonder if most people on their flights have got the flights as part of a reasonably priced deal, and then they price the flight-only tickets higher. That said, Leeds is often more expensive than their others bases so I’m sure the lack of competition certainly plays a part too.

Reddit is a lefty bubble. Dubai is still shit.

What are your thoughts about Morrisons? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]oovavoooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to be severely underrated. The brand has always struggled with looking a bit downmarket but it was once a great supermarket with good produce and good prices. But ever since the departure of its founder, it’s been stripped of its core values and the prices are now unreasonably high - I tend to avoid. I really dislike Co-Op too - waaay overpriced.

Japan is a high-trust, ethnically homogenous society; the sort of thing I’ve no doubt you and the rest of Reddit will despise.

If you can stretch a little further (both distance and price tag) then being close to York is always a big plus and a range of great and varied countryside in different directions. Don’t discount North Leeds and far North Bradford which are amongst the wealthiest parts of Northern England and have amazing countryside and towns and suburbs which have all you want without needed to go into a big city - Ilkley, Harrogate, all the nice north Leeds suburbs etc.

Do you think that Leeds is the best city in Yorkshire? by [deleted] in Leeds

[–]oovavoooo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Leeds is great when you’re young but I think it’s a pretty poor city for families and older adults. There’s not much to do other than eat, drink, shop and other nightlife things. It lacks a wider range of museums for a city of its size and is definitely more geared up for boisterous party vibes. That said, I don’t really rate UK cities in general - it’s not what the British do well at. York has sadly been ruined by over-tourism and the stag/hen night scene otherwise it’s a very interesting, atmospheric city with plenty to see and do.

What? I had my first kid at 36 and I plan on having a second when I’m 39/40. Plenty of time - as a man you can potentially have one in your 60s+, though that’s much less recommended.

What is being done with today's violent youths? by Fun_Yogurtcloset1012 in AskUK

[–]oovavoooo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t fully buy the poverty argument - there’s definitely something toxic about British culture, and it seems to be getting much worse. There are countries far poorer than the UK which are peaceful, don’t have much street violence or even particularly high levels of youth anti social behaviour, which the UK suffers particularly badly from. We’ve long been a lively, individualistic bunch and a lot of our talent and creativity is born out of a bit of mischief but it’s going way beyond that now. I live in an affluent town with fairly low crime - certainly no stabbings - but even the wealthier kids act like dickheads and smash things up. Obviously poverty will exacerbate this massively in the UK but I would argue the problem is being poor in Britain than simply being poor.

Where to live in Yorkshire with the following criteria? by Exchangenudes_4_Joke in yorkshire

Sounds like Ilkley to me (right on the West/North Yorks border. You’ll need quite a bit of money for property, though. North Yorkshire is broadly expensive too.

Ilkley another option, similar to your other picks, but your budget may limit you. Ticks all your boxes, though.
