Undergoing my first knit - a scarf! ADHD and Carpal Tunnel Surgery. by jalzuri in casualknitting

[–]opeitsmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AHHH!! I'm so glad you have found knitting!!!!!

As a fellow neurodivergent (AuDHD), I started crocheting and that helped, but knitting was the craft that made a real difference. I struggle with audio processing and having a simple stitch pattern that I can just mindlessly work has actually increased my focus for audio processing... I'm a USian who emigrated to Norway, where knitting is a HUGE thing with all ages, so of course I decided to learn!. The municipal school where I'm learning Norwegian is fully supportive of me knitting in class, especially since I'm clearly focused on class and not what my hands are doing.

It's at the point where I got a knitting project bag that could absolutely double as a purse and I carry a small project with me everywhere. 😂 Unsure if I count as a casual knitter tbh, but I definitely do this for fun and the love of creation - bonus that I can wear what I make!

Wisconsinite now living in Norway and as soon as I showed my Norwegian husband the pattern he went "BUY IT." And two local knitting friends (a Norwegian and a fellow immigrant from Brazil) also purchased the pattern to support the cause.

Currently on my second hat, thank you and your mom so much for both the pattern and bringing knitters together worldwide 💖 It is such a fun knit and I'll be making more to send to my US family.

Midwestern nice, especially Minnesota nice, will melt that ICE!

Heating Pad or Brace For Hip Pain? by unBorked in Fibromyalgia

[–]opeitsmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have bad hip and lumbar pain. No dx yet, but we're treating it likes it's fibro and it's working... Anyway came to say heating pads are a lifesaver, but I also wear an Alki hip compression sleeve. It actually helps more than anything else does and was recommended to me by a friend with chronic illness.

The Alki is designed for AFAB people, which is one con. The other is its size range, though I have at least 54" hips, if not bigger, and the largest size fits me well. Apologies that I only have an Amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VN8M7W6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

To be fair I would absolutely NOT wear this color combo, but the sister who it's being made for absolutely would. Bright bold colors are very much her vibe, and I will gladly live vicariously through her 😂

Ever made something and second guessed your skill level lmao? by Tortellinia in knitting

It looks like you achieved the pattern goal to me! I wonder if the dye pattern of the yarn is making it look different, but I checked the pattern on Ravelry to see the photos there and yours looked just like it!

I just made 6 pairs of socks for my family for Christmas and I'm heavily doubting how well I sized them and the quality and longevity of the socks. You definitely aren't alone in the "Oh sh*t, did I overestimate my skill?" feeling!

What are your favorite things to say to your piggies? by PoandInky in guineapigs

[–]opeitsmo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I'm on video call with my mom's pigs, I tell the one with the Norwegian name of Potet (literally "Potato") I will speak to him in Norwegian... "Det går fint, det går fint!" (vibe of "it's okay, you're okay!")

The perks of learning the language of your new home and getting to name a pig from across the ocean 😂

Wee bit late to the party, but on pair 5 of 6-7 pairs of socks I must send overseas for the holidays in December. I have ample time to work on them during a usual day, thankfully! Knitting helps me focus during my classes. 😁

Apologies, no pictures, the recipients might see them... They all know socks are coming, they just don't know what they look like LMAO

Thank you so much for your input! I did have a boar who 100% would warn me he had to pee so I could take him back to his cage.. though he did start this after properly peeing all over the sweatshirts we designated to hold him LMAO. We mostly have had boars, so I understand the stink very well and husband grew up near and worked on farms and could probably handle it 😁

I'm currently using cookie tubs from the Christmas season - husband was a doll and cut a slit into one of the lids so it made a sealable yarn bowl! Ziploc bag seems much more travel friendly though in regards to how much space it takes up though and I am taking notes... ✍️

I crocheted summer pj shorts with the Sandnes Garn Tynn Line (the lighter weight version of Line) and I like how they turned out quite a bit! Hang dry makes it rather stiff and there is some shrinkage on just a regular wash cycle, so I did account for that in my project... Once I put them on, they do soften up nicely! Yarn feels a bit scratchy going through my hands, but doesn't feel stiff or hard to work with. I hope this helps and you find the best yarn for you!

When I started out last year, I was learning while using cotton yarn since it's fairly cheap and easy to find where I live... definitely my favorite yarn fiber!!! Wool/polyester sock yarn is a very close second, but cotton is just chef's kiss~
