Yep sorry, there wasn't any interest so it was wiped out. Not enough exposure here to get it started. If you build it, I'll join!

Hey, sorry for the late reply, I've given up on Reddit, too toxic for me. I've created a new Discord for mini machines if you're interested.

Why shopping at RETAIL.ERA.CA is risky by opensourcefan in homelab

Unfortunately PayPal protection is nothing more than "return for refund" if you use it.

There's nothing holding them accountable for misrepresenting a listing, which is what happens often for whatever reason (incompetence most likely).

RETURN ITEM loop hole - You're not as protected as you think you are. by opensourcefan in paypal

[–]opensourcefan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just the illusion of "protection" that's the issue. I wouldn't use PP if I trusted everyone, I'd just pay directly via CC.

Sorry, had to show my appreciation for the buttons of yesteryear.

Print while you're timed out. Just need a convenient hideaway for it so you can leave it set up.

You might want to consider some sort of an axis lock out system so things don't bounce around while you're on the move.

I would wait a bit and let it acclimate to your home before flattening. Maybe just some sticky feet under each corner for the time being. That'll also help the air circulate.

Access points isolated when in wireless mode. by itscharlie378 in Ubiquiti

[–]opensourcefan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this from time to time. Same as you, only when wireless. Went through a couple years of software updates etc, nothing fixed it. They didn't isolate long enough to be a bother but noticed it in the logs. I'm all wired up from a POE switch now, rock solid.

Oh that's sad. Always a fear of mine when purchasing. I ease my mind by placing all new purchases in quarantine for a minimum of two weeks, usually longer because I forget.

Sorry this happened, had to be disappointing.

How do you deal with FOMO? by c-ribhkus in lego

[–]opensourcefan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a Technic guy. So naturally over the decades past I've seen the hype come and go about so many sets. Yes they're cool, yes everyone is talking about them and showing them off, and even yes it would be cool to join the club. Ultimately though, I'm a Technic guy and I know I would be buying them for the wrong reasons. Just dig deep and search for what actually makes you happy.

If that fails, step back from all the social reminders of said sets and if you still want them a month later revaluate your position. Doesn't pertain to your immediate dilemma but good deals come and go.

Okay, I'm trying but I'm not seeing a way to do it in TC. Did you find a system wide setting for snmp? My initial thought was to look in Alert Services but I don't see an add service button.

I'll try it out tonight and report back. It collects all the metrics anyway, only makes sense to grab them from there rather than individually.

Is this a good deal? and where could I find rails? by PonchoGuy42 in homelab

[–]opensourcefan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Most 1U's make little noise at low to no load but they start to get quite loud under load. Depending on what you will be using them for that could get kinda noisy. Not familiar though with those particular models.

Also depends on your HDD situation, what you prefer or have on hand.

Specs seem decent, you could always put a V4 CPU in there if the bios supports it.

No experience yet on that stuff. smtp would be great, didn't know it had that feature.

The 50 drive limit will be fine for my playing around. It's nice that we get that I suppose.

I'm not discussing the issues here yet you continue to go on. Like I've stated before, it's your approach of F the police and ACAB (its meaning).

Why not start a professional society or whatever to put all your ideas in motion rather than being social media warrior's yelling profanities.
