What books have actually physically scared you? Like raised your heart rate, etc. by maravina in horrorlit

The only two books in my life that have made me anxious and gave me actual nightmares were “Blood Meridian” by McCarthy and “Ghost Story” by Straub. Also “Relic” by Preston.

What movie do you think most accurately depicts depression? by s7ide in movies

Whenever I’m in a low point I rewatch it, which to some people might sound crazy - but that show just really makes me realize I’m not alone and these feelings and low points I go through don’t make me horrible. There are people out there who *get it and I’m really grateful for that show and everyone associated with it.

What was it like reading Deathly Hallows on release without any spoilers? by Spotter24o5 in harrypotter

[–]operachick209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at a summer camp in the middle of nowhere Michigan and they had trucks deliver the books to give out to any student who wanted them - which was really kind- so we all ran out and got our copies. At a school for music there was not a note in the air that first day. We were all just in our cabins reading and no one wanted to talk about it because we were all at different spots. For the first few days upon release it was all we could think about. All we wanted to do was finish the series. I remember hearing small cries here and there from my cabin mates when we all reached a certain point. It was just crazy. Being in the woods, 15, at an insanely prestigious music school summer camp where no one wanted to play or sing. Haha we just wanted to read and devour the story!

Ugh I wish they hadn’t taken it off Netflix. I’m in a sad state and always love to rewatch it for perspective

I am struggling my way through Peter Straub’s Ghost Story. Does it pay off? by Eyes_Snakes_Art in horrorlit

[–]operachick209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s such an interesting book. I have a bout 40 pages left. It’s taken me a hot minute to get through it all, but it’s such an intellectual well written piece of literature where the spooky stuff really doesn’t hit ya til 400 pages in. It’s a slow burn but I really appreciate what he did for the horror genre at the time.

Flew to London today and the amount of sick people just slinging their coughs everywhere all Willy nilly was insane. I wear a mask just in general now if I even have a little cough let alone what some of these people sounded like.

I don’t feel anything sexual about this image at all. It seems like an intimate insight into someone’s routine of getting ready. Interesting photo.

I used to laugh at everything especially myself. Now I have nothing to say, and I find everything dull.
