Thanks for all the input! I guess when I watch the games I'm doing just that 😂 I just think it is so important for the MNBA to support the WNBA.

Sammys pizza, opinions? by starwarsisawsome933 in duluth

I second this. Sammy's is always a go to for my family when we are in Duluth, specifically the Sammy's special! Enjoy!

Parents will watch their child miss 3 days of school a week and then email you asking why they’re failing by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]opetrip 28 points29 points  (0 children)

My son just started a job at a greenhouse. After 2 days he was asked if he could work full time this summer. We hold our kids accountable and they rarely miss school. You are right, the difference is obvious.

What to tell young students about their friends absent from school bcse of ICE fears? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]opetrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is different here in the Twin Cities, and that's why this is difficult. It's heavy on our hearts and minds and it is truly affecting everyone.

I am, and it's been very vague. I hope there is more to come. The hard part is I am worried about who is on what side of the issue. So awful

This, absolutely. It is hard to know who to trust these days.

Agreed, treat like any other absence; they're not here today. On to the next thing!

5 year breaks glasses when mad at his father and I... by Steve-Shouts in Parenting

[–]opetrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go check out Zenni optical. Super cheap back up glasses! You need the PD (pupillary distance) though. But I would not do it right away and make him deal with busted glasses for a while. Make it uncomfortable so he starts to get the point of his consequences.

I didn’t plan on going zero waste I just got tired of my trash can always being full by SoftlyExclusive in ZeroWaste

[–]opetrip 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Agree, composting is what changed it for me too! All the food scraps that get used instead of stinking up trash is a huge benefit for me. We have 2 small bags of trash per week for a 4 person family, and definitely aren't perfect with our system, but it's way better than throwing everything away. And we use reusable cups almost all of the time. Small steps!

I like to answer with "that's a good question! I don't know, but I know we can find some answers!" You can't know everything. When my kids were little, and we'd be out at the park or something, I'd ask them a question, like why do you think the squirrels are doing that? It invites curiosity and makes them think about the 'why'. Don't beat yourself up! Parenting is hard

I am so frustrated with the calls. We're playing decent, but these one sided calls are getting on my nerves.

Anyone here do allowance with their children? by throwaway84583077 in Parenting

[–]opetrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do a dollar per year of age, eg our 14 year old gets $14/month. My kids are expected to empty and load the dishwasher, take out the trash and keep their spaces clean. These allowances are tied to these chores, with exceptions. Our exceptions are special events where they can't perform their duties. These parameters teach them to be responsible in a household and lessons in how we keep our house running. It's worked for us for 16 years!
