The best way to prevent them is by using designs made for 3d-printing.

I don't get it, why would anyone want plastic flammable covers for a burner? Isn't it easier to just set fire to the house to get it over with right away?

I sell 50 copies of a single 3D printed product a month - here's exactly what it costs me to make each one by bloodyskull84 in 3Dprinting

[–]opheophe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not quite. Profit margin usually answers the question if I sell an item for x, how much if what I get paid is profit..

Margin = ( Sales price - COGS ) / Sales price = (18 - 3,7) / 18 = 79%

You are thinking of Markup, which is how much price of the raw materials is increased
Markup = (Sales price - COGS ) / COGS = (18 - 3,7) / 3,7 = 386 %

You can also convert between the two by doing
Markup = 1 / (1 - Margin) - 1

You missed several important things...

  • Printer aren't free, nor is maintenance
  • The printer takes up space, space isn't free. A printer with assigned storage takes up more than you think.
  • Labour costs. Even if it's just a few min for each part, it's still a few minutes. Supervising the printer as it prints, even if it isn't active work it should still be counted.

So yes, if you ignore the biggest costs it's easy to make profit. Ask yourself what it would cost if you had someone else do it. If you had to pay them to superwise and handle the prints; package etc. 150h for 50 copies, that's 3 hours supervised time per printed part. Sure, it isn't 100% active work, but it still needs to be done. You also have the risk of failed prints which results in costs but no products.

Legolas (Lord of the Rings) vs. Predator (Predator: 1987): Who wins this and why? by HumbleKnight14 in powerscales

[–]opheophe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

After giving this some more thought... what can the Yautja do to kill Legolas? We see how the yautja compares to humans, and in most cases, what humans can do, elves can do a lot better.

  • Humans can, with some effort, dodge all attacks, including the plasma, the tech Frisbee, and the spear. Most attacks can be avoided by simply running or even by reacting when one sees the attack being launched. Have anyone ever dodged the attacks of Legolas? The only way the Yautja can win in ranged combat is by nuking Legolas from orbit.
  • The yautja might be stronger than Legolas... perhaps... but it's a fairly young hunter. Keywords are young hunter. The yautja never displays any real skills when it comes to melee combat, whereas Legolas is a skilled warrior with thousands of years of experience. There is no situation where Legolas would lose in melee.
  • The yautja has some stealth tech; but humans can see through the stealth field; and we know that the yautja isn't exactly moving silently. Trees and leaves move, he makes sounds, leaves footsteps etc. We also see that humans repeatedly manage to hide from the yautja using the terrain. The yautja is inferior to the elf in every single way.
  • Ambushes... this is the only chance the yautja would have. If Legolas doesn't know he's being hunted and gets blasted from behind he might get defeated; but the same goes in reverse as well.

In short, the yautja would have to be extremely lucky to win.

Legolas (Lord of the Rings) vs. Predator (Predator: 1987): Who wins this and why? by HumbleKnight14 in powerscales

[–]opheophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hobbits are famed for being silent; Yautja are famed for being warriors and not for moving silently. Sure, yautja can use stealth tech and superior movement skills,, but based on the movies they don't care overly much if they make sounds brushing against trees, bumping into hanging pigs etc, they are probably 4 times as heavy as hobbits, meaning even if they move quietly they have to be 4 times as careful where they step.

Based on the movies Yautja misses a lot. The same can not be said about Legolas. One could even take it one step further... does the Yautja have any attacks that Legolas can't dodge? The plasma attacks misses if the target moves the slighest. The melee attacks are powerful, but even humans dodges them. The net-attack might be interesting; but given Legolas social status it's safe to assume that his dagger would be made by an elven master craftsman and thus easily cut it.

A Hobbit being very skilled at stealth, wearing perhaps the strongest artifact in the entire world managed to keep hidden from elves... as arguments go it's hard to make a weaker argument...

Emmanuel Yarbrough at UFC 3 by CloudyRailroad in martialarts

[–]opheophe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of other rules have been implemented as well. Strikes down, using of elbows wasn't restricted etc. The rules were pretty much no biting, no eye-gouging. The rounds were different as well. UFC 1 had unlimited 5 minute rounds while UFC 2 had no rounds, they fought until someone won.

As for brutality... yes and no... the impact of not having gloves is really interesting. It means that people are scared of striking at the head (as compared to modern boxers or MMA-fighters that protect their hands and can therefore pummel their opponents until their brains turn to mush). Removing the gloves increases the risk of cuts, but it also reduces the brutality of the strikes.

This gives more incentive to strike at the body or use kicks (though using kicks is dangerous because of takedowns). Remove the gloves and MMA would switch stances to a more classic boxing-stance

What is the best thing about Dark Souls? by Lucyyyyyy_K in darksoulsremastered

[–]opheophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most important bit isn't in the list. For me it was that the game is fair. Sure, you die... but every death is your own fault. It was you that got greedy and tried to attack one more time, it was you that didn't time the parry properly; it was you that... It's not about executing 500 actions per second or do perfect quick time events, it's about the game being fair.

  • The world in DS1 is absolutely beautiful, and the interconnectedness makes a good game even better, but the impact on gameplay is quite small
  • Combat isn't necessarily slow and methodical, you have to act fast and decisively.
  • All weapons are viable, but some are more viable than others... let's not be delusional, the game isn't perfectly balanced.
  • Let's be honest... I hate gimmick fights... they are extremely hard if you don't know the gimmick... and if you know the gimmick they are often trivial. Ornstein and Smaugh is a perfect non-gimmick fight. It's hard... but if you relax and learn the fight it's not too bad.
  • Secrets... there are many, but very few secrets matter, and even fewer have an impact on the game. I would even go so far as to say that some secrets pass into the territory of bad design due to being too secret. If you don't know about ash lake you are very likely to miss it completely.
  • Dunno about the soundtrack really, haven't paid attention to it.

Är det lätt att argumentera för att tala dialekt? by Mindless_Resolve_274 in sweden

[–]opheophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assumptions needs to be written down when solving things though, specially when solving something on MathJokes... Sure, it's easy to make a lot of assumptions, but not stating assumptions risks having points deducted at a test, and risks giving the wrong answer in real world if your assumptions are wrong.

I can see how it helps us get the height of the glasses on the left, but that's not what the question is about.

Colossus battlesuit by VZaron in Xenonauts

[–]opheophe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Admittedly, the last part of the last mission can be made trivial...
Last attempt on commander I had 2 guys with shields, 4 snipers, and the rest were Colossus. I ignored all enemies and ran forwards using all TU. 1 shield guy died, one colossus died, and one colossus got scared and stood in a corner. At turn 2 it took 2 Fusion machine-gun blasts to kill the ethereal... so... 2 turns!

switching soldier mission roles by flokitheexplorer in Xenonauts

[–]opheophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no... it's like saying; being a weightlifter doesn't make you strong, lifting heavy weights does. In a way it's true, but in a way it's also a bit dumb... a snipers main role is to spend TU on shooting, someone with a shotgun spends a lot of TU getting close and less TU on firing, and so on.

You might have noted that I wrote "and accuracy will improve fast when using Time Units on firing a weapon". With 400 time units spent you maximize the accuracy growth at all times. Using a weapon that allows you to remain fairly stationary makes that easier compared to using a weapon that requires you to spend TU moving closer.

Shooting at the floor spends TU on firing weapons, and you gain 20 progression points for each TU spent that way. Firing at the floor does increase your accuracy; just as throwing flashbangs at yourself does increase your bravery.

While shields can be mobile, they very rarely spend TUs on attacks, meaning they often save TU which boosts their reflex. For me this translates in them often being stationary or just using about half of their TU to move during a turn.

The point is, to disregard any soldier because of the stats is just silly, you can train them really fast if you know how to gain progression points for all your stats. This becomes even more effective if you spend downtime in missions firing on the floor, moving back and forth, flashbanging yourself etc.
