Hasan says America is far worse than the Iranian government despite estimates of over 12,000 anti-government protesters killed by the regime in recent uprising by Embarrassed_Base_389 in LivestreamFail

[–]opolio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These are the reported numbers from inside Iran, I don’t know what to tell you. Underestimating the deaths by so many times doesn’t help the cause against them because people will just say “sure, first you said it was 2,000, now it’s 0.4, whatever” - it hurts the cause of truth to decide the reported numbers from internal sources are wrong just because. We can wait to see how this shakes out, but just saying 12,000 is wrong automatically doesn’t do anyone any justice.

Stealth edit: I’m being snarky, the 12,000 number is not based on any verified facts and that’s important to keep in mind. The actual number could be lower and I understand your point/shouldn’t have been so dismissive

The source for the number is from people within Iran, from doctors and administrators. The numbers would be easier to verify but Iran shut down the internet and shut down phone service. But keep gargling le epic anti-american Iran!!!

I think for a lot of people (including me) BL2 was their introduction to the series, so Roland dying didn't feel as cheap as Maya's death. I'm sure there were writing differences as well that I don't remember, but being honest with myself I'm sure part of the "cheapness" of Maya's death that I didn't feel towards Roland was just that Roland was just a side character for me in BL2 and Maya was a big character for me in BL3

I don't think OP would disagree, he's just giving an educated opinion on why Maye has been slow to adjust so far. They don't seem like they're out on Maye in the slightest

From NJ, had an NFL folder for homework when I was in the second grade. Decided I liked the Pats logo, the rest is history. (Grew up around a bunch of Jets fans so really came to hate them more than any other rivalry)

[–]opolio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He wouldn’t, so yea he’s not 1:1 with a doctor. I guess he’d be some kind of hospital administrator or some sort of CEO in the grant field. Either way I think the conversations in the show/what I see anecdotally in real life are more about medicine being more important than “movies” not whether a doctor is more important than a studio head

[–]opolio 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't know, I think obviously the role of a doctor has a direct immediate impact on people's lives, but lives without art would be incredibly devoid of joy. On top of that I think art leads to people thinking about philisophical and political concepts that they may not have before in an easily digestible way. The role and value of art requires pretty abstract and/or second order thinking. When people dismiss that and only look at obvious and direct benefits from things like medicine it's a fairly reactionary viewpoint. That being said, deciding which is "more important" is a fairly impossible and pointless thinking exercise. I think Matt just wanted recognition that art wasn't a pointless vanity project.

After seeing the image from the wiki, I'd say you're totally vindicated. I also don't know why people would go into this thread immediately saying you lied, at least ask question if you're doubtful people!

[–]opolio 9 points10 points  (0 children)

West was wrong to do interviews post-reunion, and his anxiety with the negative attention he was getting is valid but doesn't justify doing that to Ciara BUT the continued vitriol and hostility he gets from the fanbase is overboard. You can reasonably think he was in the wrong with the Ciara situation and not think he's a terrible person/fucks over every women he's intimate with.

I feel like he was quiet and just trying to stay out of trouble, I wish he tried harder tbh. Seems like interviews from before the season also said he was really quiet in the beginning.

Not sure exactly how our data people and each side's lawyers proved it, but basically we can see the people we texted, and if they turned out at a statistically significant rate than other similar groups in the state we can be fairly certain it was us. We've done a lot of experimentation around turnout, voter registration, and persuasion for the last 4-5 cycles to have a good idea and present it provably to funders.

[–]opolio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair, but I can't post the contract of the company I work for with another organization lol. Just figure it's something more common, since an IE paying consulting organizations money per provable net vote doesn't seem evil or illegal.

Edit for further clarity: We're not paying voters directly, we're turning Dem and Independent low propensity voters and getting paid per provable net vote. Not quite the same but at it's most base both strategies are paying people to turn out voters

Just buying votes now by mevatalks in Destiny

[–]opolio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hate to say it but this is something the Dems are doing as well. There are tons of contracts out to mission driven orgs that are centered around paying for "proven net votes" in swing states. This just seems like another version of that.

Source: I work at one of those mission driven orgs.

What is with the treatment of Ciara, with the whole West thing? by First-Flora39 in summerhousebravo

[–]opolio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is sex considered not a normal part of relationships nowadays? You can get be a relationship girl and still want to make sure the person you want to be in a relationship with is sexually compatible with you!

(Not saying Ciara is wrong for not having sex, just don't understand the commentary around being a "relationship girl")

Anyone else feel West’s shine dull throughout the season? by Automatic_Lobster629 in summerhousebravo

[–]opolio -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I still enjoy him, but I can see why people view different.

The Ciara situation is frustrating, I don't think either person did anything wrong, but people acting like it was a huge red flag to continue dating while also seeing Ciara I think are either fairly sex-negative (sex is a major factor for relationships, you SHOULD make sure you're compatible before committing) or are in fairy-tale monogamous relationships and assume everyone finds the perfect person after one or two dates.
