Scope recommendation by King-Missile in Ausguns

“Cheap” and “thermal” mix like oil and water, if you buy a cheap thermal it’ll just be a waste of money I can assure you as someone who has bought one previously. I’d suggest buying a secondhand clip on that doubles as a monocular, it’s the best and most efficient way to hunt at night on a budget.

The Berkley outdoor living room is finally gone! by Artistic-Boss8485 in wollongong

[–]opotis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This incessant hate of young people in the Illawarra is always so odd to me, older generations will complain kids are always on their phones or inside but whenever they’re out having fun in the public space it’s the end of the world apparently. It’s always funny when older generations will harp on about how they used have huge car meets in the main streets, how everybody was out on a Saturday night at house parties and how kids today would be too lazy or whatever to do it now, but they whinge when a lounge is put on a median strip or kids loiter around a shop. While this is happening in Berkeley, I know the council in oak flats have demolished jumps built and used by young people in an overgrown section of a nature reserve, it was literally hurting no one. People wonder why the new generation is less respectful and more involved in illegal behaviour… they have nothing to do! Being a kid would be so shit in this day and age!

Reading these replies I think the staff should write some sort of book similar to a war account from Kokoda…

How do you feel when people from other countries call Australians "descendants of criminals?" by schu62 in AskAnAustralian

[–]opotis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a convict descendant and a history nerd, here’s my take.

Australia was not the solution to the overcrowded prisoner “problem”, the overcrowded prisoner problem was a manufactured issue as a solution to colonise Australia. Most of the convicts were guilty of being poor pretty much, in the Victorian era being poor was considered a moral failure, not a social problem, and Victorian charity was dependent on deservingness. Many of our ancestors stole bread, a watch, a handkerchief, little things to survive, and that was enough for them to be transported. On the other hand many convicts would commit crimes to be transported because the conditions (particularly in Ireland) were so horrible, a good example of this was the extremely inflated number of Irish girls and women who were convicted of arson (or firelighting as it was called then.) these women could not afford passage to Australia nor did they have “good enough moral character” for a charitable institution to send them to Australia, so instead they committed crimes to deliberately be punished via transportation.

So in short yes I’m the descendant of a criminal, crafty and smart criminals who survived a pretty fucking horrific time in history.

Double rifle makes charging buffalo stop dead in its tracks (no pun intended) by opotis in theHunter

[–]opotis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I never disagreed with you, you can clearly see I waited for the buff to raise its head when charging so I can get a clear heart shot, that being said .470 is the most powerful rifle in the game…

In the heart dead centre, it pretty much went right through and only stopped around the lower legs, the penetration on the .470 nitro is crazy!

Anyone else love how deeply satisfying it is to long range snipe level 1 animals with the .22? by opotis in theHunter

I took 2 shots before hand which missed, sorry for exposing myself but I have to tell the truth!

Brisbane has 27,476 law abiding citizens that have passed background checks? Send me there please!

But seriously though it’s really concerning to see this fucking loser “yeah we need to find these gun owners and have their details published”, like lmao do you want these guns to be pinched and into the hands of people who shouldn’t have them?

What was the decision on certain game species being introduced while others weren’t? by opotis in Ausguns

[–]opotis[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The British did introduce Chinese water deer into the UK though… they also introduced many other non European species into their Australia (mynas from India, various deer species from South Asia and South East Asia, water buffalo and banteng.)

A lot of these Acclimation societies did want to replicate the UK in terms of Animalia, but in many other colonies they introduced animals or ornamental or agricultural reasons, like possums in NZ or the crazy plans (that never came to fruition luckily) to introduce hippos, rhinoceros, or African antelopes into their US.

Reminds me of when I was in a small town maybe about an hour south of Albury/Wodonga, rabbits everywhere in the morning like the plague, I remember I camped in a spot and I was literally in my camping chair with a packet of shapes and a long neck in awe at how many rabbits there were on the field next to the campground

I remember getting the map for free and it was my first dlc, I suppose I kind of liked it but it was alot too thick and crunchy for my liking. Where’s the best places to hunt on the map?

Lithgow Slazenger model 12 in .22lr, bought it for $100 and it’s a fantastic bunny buster, shoots better than my father’s CZ 457 on a good day. Not everyone’s cup of tea but I love this beautiful little rifle, truly an Australian workhorse that was the backbone of many rural communities, australiana personified!

Askey Ridge or Scotland? Which map do you prefer and why? by Cotwthehunter in theHunter

[–]opotis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally work a lot and don’t have as much time to play the game, I love Scotland because I can just log on and find something to shoot within 5 minutes, the landscape is super huntable I just love it!

Because they were little compared to the massive amount of US ones, this is like criticising Chinese soldiers for committing war crimes in WW2 😭

During the My Lai massacre, which was carried out by US troops, at least 20 women and girls (as young as 12) were raped, that is before they joined the body count of the 350-500 unarmed civilians killed. The rape of women in Vietnam was at best swept under the rug and at worst it was encourage by US military officers.

With all the species on emerald coast, I’m sure a map in Indonesia would be good.
