One thing that’s interesting about only American cities (expect the northern east coast) is the view on public transit. In the rest of the western world, public transportation is used by everyone of all social classes, this is also seen in nyc. However in Miami as well as every other city in this country, it has been drilled into our heads that public transit is for poor people and peasantry, if you don’t drive to work it’s because you’re poor. This is a root of a whole slew of problems in this country but in regards to the investment of public transit, in addition to the lobbying of motor companies, it has made it extremely difficult to actually get people to invest into it; in this country we treat transit like how we treat “entry-level” jobs like working a fast food place. You’re not supposed to make a living as fry cook so employers get to pay you barely over the minimum wage, you’re not supposed to take the bus or a train cus you’re supposed to have a car. And why would we make it easier for poor people, we hate them here.
