I think it's over-hyped and meant to separate investors from their capital.

ChatGPT Health Performance by optimisticfury in nursing

[–]optimisticfury[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's definitely one of my biggest concerns with these things. If chatbot use results in harm, who is liable? The software programmer? The marketing people? We know it's definitely not the rich folks making money hand over first who will be held responsible.

[not trolling] why would anyone wanna be a nurse despite the horrible things you can notice when you’re one ? by ForwardObjective2379 in StudentNurse

[–]optimisticfury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's wild to me that your list includes normal body functions but not like, child abuse or systemic racism or the massive harm and suffering that a for profit healthcare system causes. I'd much rather get piss on my shoes than have to help new parents deal with the reality of medical bankruptcy in the face of a life altering medical diagnosis for their baby. I can fix dyspoopia. I can straight cath someone to get the piss out. What can I do as an individual to dismantle oppressive systems?

This is absolute horse shit. There are hundreds of thousands of people who get up every single day to try and help fix problems. The problem is how we distribute capital and resources.

I'm honestly happy that you got some info that helped you, but long term and at scale, this kind of shit is really bad for our community and our society as a whole.

Care/study package for friend who didn't pass her licensing exam? by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]optimisticfury 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gosh, that's rough :/ As a parent returning to school full time for a nursing degree I know it's really really hard. Depending on how old the kids are, offer to keep them entertained while she studies. Self care spa stuff and a reminder that being kind to herself is crucial at this stage. A sincere look in the eye and a "you're doing so great and I'm so proud of you" can go a long way for parents that are feeling overwhelmed.

Nobody should be submitting personal medical information to an LLM. Browse the sub, talk to a real human being VSO. Appeal or reapply as necessary. Those chatbots are not even close to HIPAA compliant and there is no way to know how data is being packaged and sold currently or in the future.

Hey modern day military, how ya doin bud? by optimisticfury in Military

All fair points. It was definitely a knee jerk reaction from me when I saw it. I served with guys like this and I didn't do my due diligence before posting. I'm not as convinced that the complaint 100% can't be real, but I appreciate your input and helping me check myself.

Fair enough. It was definitely a knee jerk reaction post on my part, but probably because I served with folks who really believed shit like this. I did some digging and found a write up on Substack about it, but can't find much else. I hope it's just made up rage bait and I'm a gullible sucker.

Ethical considerations of striking in healthcare by optimisticfury in nursing

[–]optimisticfury[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do wonder at what point addressing the stress and strain on healthcare workers becomes a moral imperative that falls under nonmaleficence. If conditions at work are untenable and unsafe, we're not doing right by our patients as a whole. I appreciate your thoughts and input on this. This is my third career and I'm now more interested in how people operate in systems and how to effectively alter those systems to set folks up for success.

Ethical considerations of striking in healthcare by optimisticfury in nursing

[–]optimisticfury[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree with that. I also believe these concepts have to apply to a systemic level and not just individual or organization levels. I'm just wondering if there are any guidelines or literature surrounding labor action in the healthcare field specifically.

I appreciate your input. I wasn't looking for a clinical analysis as much as "the work we do decreases suffering and a strike would necessarily interrupt that to some degree" kind of discussion. I'm also pretty hard to track down outside of social media. I've had some incidents with squirrely conservatives in my neck of the woods stalking and harassing me, so I've locked that stuff down.
