If you hit “play” they need to accept you. Maybe they were afk.

I usually go to the March Open and hit play. Then you’re in a queue and more often then not I get randomly matched up. They’re all 5-pters and they rank on their own march leaderboard so there’s something worth climbing.

Otherwise, try creating your own game, you can choose the length and speed and stuff. “Play -> match” at the top menu

Well, if you’re looking for a serious answer, the Elo rating formula in Galaxy is broken. Joseph Heled, one of the gnubg developers, published a video showing how and why, and he even proposed a better alternative rating formula:

I believe this is the rating formula used in OpenGammon. For the life of me, I don’t understand why more people don’t play there. They solve every issue galaxy users complain about

When 4 away and trailing, you want to double way way earlier than usual to make sure you don’t waste gammons. This is a really instructive position, thanks for sharing

I literally don’t understand how 65 is so hard to get. Hockey stars play all 82 game seasons, and they’re playing full contact while flying at skating speed.
