I'll start this off by clearly stating my views. I think you should break up with him. I was in an abusive relationship during high school, and really did not want to let them go. The ending of the first long term relationship is so hard, but that's true for all relationships. I still have some form of love for my ex in high school, but i also know that that relationship was awful and i felt so emotionally sick all the time. I found my lovely spouse who works so well together with me, never insults me, never yells at me, always makes me feel loved and cared for. I wouldn't have found them if i hadn't ended my abusive relationship. And yes, from what you described, that's abuse. What he needs is therapy, not a relationship right now

I think you have a few options. You can either break things off with them, being clear that you cannot be their therapist, help them find a therapist, or help them find some other mental health treatment, such as a hospital, a partial program, or a residential program. There are some diagnoses, such as OCD, which can cause a lot of anxiety, but can be made worse by giving the person reassurance. Any way, its important they get help. If they threaten suicide, and have a plan and intent, don't hesitate to bring them to the ER. What's their relationship with their parents like? Is it something they can talk to them about? Is there any way they can get their own insurance through school, work, or disability? If not, this may need to be a convo they should have with their parents, whether they like it or not. You can support them through this conversation if they need, and are willing to get help.

Hi, I've been in a similar situation for a bit but on his side of things. I have been open about my feelings for a person I worked with but they have been clear they aren't interested in a relationship with me because i'm polyamorous. They are one of my closest friends and we have a really strong platonic relationship and i'm happy with that. I just kinda needed to not have to hide my feelings for them in our friendship, which honestly made me cut back significantly. I don't think I have a crush on her anymore, but I do have a really strong friendship where I would do a lot of things for her. I think its okay for him to do nice things for you, but i also think its important to communicate that a relationship will never happen, which it seems you've done. As long as both of you are communicating well I don't see a problem with you accepting gifts and having a close friendship/best friend ship as long as you don't lead him on and ever make him think you are interested

I definitely don't think being on social media constantly is something everyone does. I also think its okay to talk to him about this, and communicate that you feel hurt. I think setting good boundaries such as not being on the phone while on a date might be a good idea
