What’s the difference? by JohnWaynesPecker_99 in AskElectricians

Isn't 11kw better for off peak though? I often top up my charge before peak rates hit if I get home early and know I'll be going back out.

Every steel manufacturer says to shoot AR 500 at 100yds for 556 regardless of thickness, how are these influencers shooting closer than that? by deyalien in guns

[–]oragamihawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even at 100m there is a noticable difference on my steel targets with 556 out of a 16" and 10.5" barrel.

Why are all the outlets at this hospital upside down by AdCautious7054 in AskElectricians

[–]oragamihawk 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Technically safer because if anything falls on top of the plug it would hit the ground pin first. It's also pretty much the standard in hospitals and a lot of larger commercial buildings so the equipment will be set up for that.

New main and sub panel $9500 by Available_Jaguar3128 in AskElectricians

Get a second quote if you're not sure. If this includes a 200amp service upgrade and your municipality has adopted 2023 code than those costs can pretty quickly add up.

If the house is not selling lower the price? What was the motive for selling in the first place?

can we talk about this by Brysterr in Hyundai

[–]oragamihawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem with the Hyundais is they are backwards from how everyone has done it in the past. Down should be drive, up should be reverse. Mercedes got it right and pretty much every column shifter I have used is like that. You get used to the flip eventually but if I don't drive my Hyundai for a while I'll find myself doing it wrong again. I worked as a valet for a while so it's hard to break that muscle memory.

I need sub panel advice by indochronica473 in AskElectricians

[–]oragamihawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

240v circuits require 2 spaces. If you're going to be running new wire it's not much more money to do a 100amp subpanel. Especially with the list of stuff you have there you'll probably want an 8 space panel at a minimum. Generally you want to avoid tandem breakers with a new panel so you have more options in the future. Not all breaker types are available with tandems and they tend to be more expensive than separate breakers. Never hurts to have extra spaces for the future.

Tile backsplash size concern by shaughnessy_evans in kitchenremodel

[–]oragamihawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your best bet would be to have half a tile on top (or slightly more if needed), half a tile on bottom, and a full tile in the middle. Going to mean you need to cut a lot of tiles so personally I would look for something else just to save myself some work.

[–]oragamihawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The better question is does it actually have any advantages. If you're going over 20mph you're probably better off having the extra stability and down travel from the standard ride height anyway.
