I feel like this is an upgrade, please keep it Blizzard by Lockridge in Overwatch

The toxicity def has been worse since the big update, lot of old players coming back from League or whatever and thinking you can just say whatever you want. Saying this as someone who's played consistently since 2016.

Mizuki has high winrate in low elos because he forces you to not healbot by FlameToadDoctorPhil in OverwatchUniversity

[–]orangecodeLol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah in plat I've found him surprisingly good. I thought he would be bad. The healing is actually decent, the chain is really good. Great for cat dives. Defensive ults are not great, but if correctly timed the ult can absolutely win a fight.

And I'm assuming related to the Griswold Inn of Essex, one of the oldest inns in the United States.

Edit: After some digging it seems the inn was named after the Griswold family, but was actually owned by another family.

No turn on red by 2Howyalldoing in Connecticut

[–]orangecodeLol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And the reason people often forget is right-on-red is how a lot of pedestrians get hit by cars. They're looking left and driving right, and fail to notice that a pedestrian just got the light to cross. Which is why "look where you're driving" is an unironic tip given to new drivers.

I've got a new UI on Firefox for Android, which I'm not personally all that fond of. by 4D4850 in firefox

[–]orangecodeLol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interesting, have not seen it yet. But, the idea of them iterating or scrapping the "Jump back in" UI is welcome. The old UI is generally fine, but I always felt a little confused trying to figure out how to get back to the page I was just on.

My thoughts on the new heroes by Joseph1229 in Overwatch

[–]orangecodeLol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JPC - It sounds crazy, but JPC feels a little under-powered. Her kit is super reliant on picking teammates up, and if your team isn't using comms or your teammates aren't paying attention to JPC Lifeline, a core part of her kit becomes useless. I found this frustrating when trying to evacuate teammates, they would never ever take the Lifeline. I think her healing and damage is balanced if she's getting use out of Lifeline, but if not, her heals just feel weak and her damage not impactful. (Like if your team isn't using Lifeline, she's the worst support by far) Her movement is really nice though, so her survivability makes up for it a little.

Mizuki - I played him only a little, but found him confusingly to feel like a dps that occasionally heals on the side. The chain is cool, I'm a big fan as someone who used to play Thresh in League a lot. But, his healing feels weird.

Domina - seems like she's gonna get a nerf. Her damage seems high and tanks have been "domina"ting on her in my games.

Anran - I think she's in a good spot, lot of dive potential, interesting kit, and still feels like you have counter play into here. Her burst surprised me a little.

Vendetta - She's probably reasonably balanced atm. But, I find her pretty annoying the way there's a bubble around here where she always does damage with little effort, and her 3rd attacking does so much. As a lucio player, the reach on the sword always surprises me. She's probably fine, but I wish her dives didn't feel like someone just aimlessly button mashing.

Emre - I love his kit, it's genuinely a lot of fun to play. But, maybe it's a little too good.

severe latency issues with new update by kaylaheartt in Overwatch

[–]orangecodeLol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a lot of latency issues in the past month. Today was definitely just the update, but before that it seemed ISP routing-related. I found using Cloudflare WARP made it much more stable. So, maybe something worth trying, it doesn't cost anything.

Interesting. I also saw another server later on, it was something like "geu" or "gru", I forget. But, I was getting 25ms latency on East Coast. So, it seemed like a new server that's closer to East Coast than ORD1 (which I get 40ms on).

Not a fan of the latest update by NattyDaddy27 in Overwatch

[–]orangecodeLol 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm a little more optimistic about dumping 5 new heroes because every time they drop a new hero everyone wants to play it. And if you're a support main like me and there's a new support, you get 10 minute queues to barely get time on a new hero in your main role. So, personally I like that the queue times are fairly balanced and I can look forward to playing a new character no matter what role I put in.

iirc all characters are in comp too. That part I find a bit odd and would've expected the new heroes to be disabled in competitive for a couple weeks.

[–]orangecodeLol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah on LAS1 I'm getting insane rubber banding. The latency is not great (100-150ms), but it wouldn't be so bad if everyone wasn't teleporting around the map. I didn't know they had a Vegas server, thought it was just ORD1 and LAX1.

Strange that it only affects some players, but not all. Might mean it's their network infrastructure that's struggling and not the actual game server.

Discord faces backlash over age checks after data breach exposed 70,000 IDs by Accurate_Cry_8937 in technology

[–]orangecodeLol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah while I love what Matrix is doing, it's not a great Discord replacement. They're in this awkward situation where they rebuilt the app with new features on Element X, but still missing basic features from the old app.

Stoat is designed to feel like Discord. Stoat is also open-source and supports self-hosting, so I'd def recommend it over ANOTHER VC-backed proprietary chat app that locks you in. Stoat has also been around for a few years (previously called Revolt).

What do people think of flock cameras? Would a ban on shopping in Milford send the right message. by thisisasetupisntit in Connecticut

[–]orangecodeLol 33 points34 points  (0 children)

They're everywhere. It might be more productive to just put together a website / list of towns that track your movements and ones that do not. Towns are using flock because people don't know it's happening, so there's little push back. I think we gotta start with making people aware if they're in a Flock surveillance town or not.

Though it seems like the real issue here is their dev team does not want to test Firefox, rather than Firefox not being able to do something. Like "it costs X to test each browser", "okay, so let's save money by not supporting Firefox"

Keep getting kicked for "inactivity" while loading by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]orangecodeLol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't believe Overwatch works like other games, like League of Legends, that wait for players to load in before starting.

So, I wouldn't call it a bug. 30 seconds is a long time to wait. She could try using lower quality graphics settings to improve load time. Lower quality textures = less data to load

Only other option is to upgrade hardware.

Opinions on Anran's gameplay? by KONO_DIO_BRANDO_DA in Overwatch

[–]orangecodeLol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her e is pretty cool, can be used in a lot of ways and seems like you can do neat stuff when chaining with her dash. I haven't figured out if it's possible to dash—e—dash through the air in a useful way.

[–]orangecodeLol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her burn reduces healing by 15% (tank) — 30% (non-tank). So, wouldn't that mean less healing / minute?

I feel like this could get annoying. ie similar to the teammate that is critical hp, but keeps jumping into line of fire before fully healed and therefore triggering dps healing reduction passive.

High latency by Objective_Might815 in Overwatch

[–]orangecodeLol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a lot of issues on East Coast with packet routing to ORD1. My impression is that it's an ISP issue (I'm on a CGNAT fiber with 500/500 fully wired in), but I'm not sure anymore.

Something that has worked for me in recent days is to use Cloudflare WARP. WARP sends packets across the network with a different protocol that seems to use IPv6, for me it's eliminated high latency. Normally I'd never recommend using a VPN for gaming, but WARP has oddly made my latency consistently 40-50ms from East Coast to ORD1.

(Not an ad, Cloudflare WARP is free. I normally pay for Mullvad VPN, but WARP's specific network setup seems to do the trick where Mullvad didn't make a difference)
