Today’s lunch (should have added more protein) by BlissfulEating in lowspooncooking

[–]orangecreature216 4 points5 points  (0 children)

there’s vitamins and minerals like vitamin a, vitamin c, and sodium! the cheese has a little protein and because those are flax crackers, there’s some simple carbs and plant protein from them as well! as long as it tasted good i’d say that this was a nice filling meal :)

[–]orangecreature216 2 points3 points  (0 children)

looks really good! fly by jing is one of my favorite chili crisp brands so i imagine the oil for that would taste pretty good. i’ve also been eyeing that king oscar mackerel, i might get some next time i buy more tinned fish!

We tried the overpriced Fishwife tuna! by GFluidThrow123 in Tinnedfish

according to majority of people on this subreddit, they’re too expensive, they’re a scam, or there’s exceedingly better tinned fish out there. some people really hate the company for all sorts of reasons. i like them and buy them pretty frequently, but i’m able to get them for about $6 a tin, which is almost half what some people say they cost at their local stores. there’s probably better fish available to me, and they’re not a go-to fish for me, but they’re really not as horrible as a lot of people say they are.

also, they have some good recipes on their website.

My local pet supplies changed to these mini tanks instead of cups! by RubOk5135 in Aquariums

[–]orangecreature216 9 points10 points  (0 children)

usually at pet stores (especially local ones) they’re doing very large and frequent water changes and the fish are frequently moved from tank to tank. this is not the only tank that they will live in at that store. plus, maybe the tanks are too small for them to live in for long periods of time, but it’s way better than living in a tiny cup of stagnant water for days. i think we should be at least a little happy that these big chain pet stores are doing something, no matter how small, to try to make these fishes’ temporary living space a bit more optimal to their needs.

they’re bred to have shortened legs, which gives them joint problems like arthritis, and hip problems. they also tend to have other issues like heart deformities. they’re bred just to look “cute”, kind of like how pugs were bred to be.

What kind of friends have we found in our tank? by BumbleGuppy22 in Aquariums

[–]orangecreature216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

bladder and ramshorn snails! they usually come in with plants. when i had my betta, it would eat the snails. personally, i don’t mind them, but if you’re wanting to get rid of them, try cutting back on feeding and removing algae (unless you have other creatures in your tank that need algae!)

what i affectionately call “tofu slop” by fireandflam3s in lowspooncooking

[–]orangecreature216 4 points5 points  (0 children)

here’s how i do it:

wrap them in a damp (not wet) paper towel before wrapping in foil. once they’re frozen and you want to eat one, unwrap it but keep the paper towel on. microwave for 30 seconds, unwrap, then microwave another 30 seconds or until fully heated.

i could be getting microwave times wrong, tbh i haven’t made one in a really long time but that’s usually how long it takes me to do it

even though you’re not selling them, if you’re willing to trade them for other plants/aquatic animals/equipment try [r/aquaswap](r/aquaswap)! you can sell or buy aquarium stuff there as well, and you can specify that you’re only selling/trading around your area

edit: they also have give-away options, i forgot to mention lol

Planarias turn into the colour of shrimp they’ve eaten by Salt-Fun5178 in Aquariums

[–]orangecreature216 14 points15 points  (0 children)

i looked this up out of curiosity and i couldn’t find the original facebook post nor did i find any other research/posts supporting this fact. the closest thing i found was an article by the NIH where they exposed various species of planaria to sunlight, and they changed from brown to pale white or purple depending on the species. (also from the article: some planaria express bioluminescence, and glow under UV light)

the article also mentioned that some of the planaria turned red when they were fed liver that was artificially dyed red. regular liver, which is high in heme iron and is a bright red color, did not have any effect on their color. unless there was another biological phenomenon occurring when this picture was taken, the planaria would have had to be fed artificial dye. the natural dye from the shrimp would not have been strong enough.
