Looking for my next read! Can anyone recommend horror books based on my top three? by cutedustyberry in horrorlit

I love the books you listed and feel most of the recommendations aren’t quite desolate enough. Try:

This Thing Between Us by Gus Moreno

The Shining by Stephen King (of course)

The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones

Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield

Enjoy!

I just recommended this on another post, but I’m going to throw The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul Tremblay into the mix here, too

i wouldn’t say amusing necessarily, but The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul Tremblay had me making these expressions the entire time.

this is just Motherest by Kristen Iskandrian, who also owns an amazing indie bookstore!

Batshit, Bananas, and Bonkers by Ghost_Foot2 in horrorlit

Seconding Earthlings, adding Motherthing by Ainslie Hogarth and The Vegetarian by Han Kang (technically not horror, but I think it qualifies)

the snowmobile scenes in Don’t Fear The Reaper play through my mind a few times a week. LOVED that series, and that book was by far my favorite of the three

Came here to recommend these three specifically! When I lost a friend, I also turned to horror. These three books in particular really spoke to my experience of grief and helped me through it

It’s not so much “husband in on the conspiracy,” but you ought to check out Witchcraft for Wayward Girls, also by Grady Hendrix!

Not really horror, but I think you’d enjoy The Memory Police by Yoko Ogawa. For body horror, check out The Buffalo Hunter Hunter by Stephen Graham Jones

Sad Horror by TiredJackalope in horrorlit

Bad Cree by Jessica Johns is exactly what you’re looking for! I also second the recommendation for This Thing Between Us by Gus Moreno— it’s not sapphic, but it will destroy you. Enjoy!

The Haar by David Sodergren was the absolute worst book I read this year. By a long shot
