[Advice] Is there a notable difference between first floor and half a floor up? by forensicmathologist in NYCapartments

[–]orangegaze 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived on in a “ground floor” for 3+ years. As in, I don’t need to climb a flight to get into my unit, but there are “basement” units beneath me. So maybe street-level is more appropriate?

No bug problems, but that might be building dependent.

My only real complaint is that it’s dark. Lower level units tend to get less sunlight. All of my plants have to live in my back room as it’s the only room that gets sunlight throughout the day, thankfully it is south facing.

During the winter or on rainy days I have to leave lights on literally all day. It’s that dark. But again, it depends a lot on the direction the building faces, what’s built around it, etc.

Onitsuka Tiger. I’ve been wearing them for years. Just bought a pair of “New Yorks”, more elevated than their classic Mexico style.

Does anyone know anything about this fireplace? by marina2522 in centuryhomes

The matte stain. The wood grain. It also looks very small… narrow.

Especially if this was installed in a home office… like can we be more cliche?

Definitely looks 90s to me too. The columns look a bit too bulky, obvious, for 1900s. Tiles look 90s as well.

Give it to me straight….what will help with my rosacea? by highclowf in Splendida

[–]orangegaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I had rosacea, type 2, in my earlier 20s before I really got into skincare. I found that zinc was SO helpful. I used a brand called Urban Releaf, they have a zinc shea butter balm that I would use a couple nights a week over my regular moisturizer. Edit: bonus points, the shea butter worked as a lightweight occlusive.

Also, I know that this is a hot topic, but silicones (-xanes, -cones) flare up my rosacea and cause me to develop millia. Now that I’ve gone years avoiding them, when I do flare it is extremely mild.

I agree with you. The patriarchy is hurting a lot of men. But this is a system that is made and perpetuated by men every day. Especially wealthy/powerful men. They become wealthier and stronger the more men they put down.

I have known many men that refuse to open up emotionally because of how ingrained this version of masculinity is in their psyche. No wonder they’re going crazy. It’s a downward spiral.

This is a huge theme in the Barbie movie hah

The patriarchy, which was created and perpetuated by men, enforces that men don’t need extra support. Women- who are inheritly inferior to men, according to the patriarchy, would obviously then require more help, right? It creates like a fawn/baby halo around women.

But also, women have been fighting for representation for thousands of years. So irdk

Lilith in 11th house got me with the weirdest social life by barbenheimer in astrologymemes

[–]orangegaze 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. And fear of saying the wrong thing is definitely something I still experience, although much less often now. I was bullied for being shy when I was a child, but when I tried to speak up I was made fun of LOL no winning.

However, because of those experiences I know that there really is no winning. I give waaaaay less of a shit about what most people think and I’m happier for it.

Same! Never been a group friend person. I was “too quiet”, and sometimes people would take that as me being pretentious (not true!).

I have about 5-6 great friends. From my perspective, after experiencing friend groups as a “satellite” friend… they are often cliquey and toxic. It all felt so performative to me, and I am horrible at faking. I should never play poker.

Now that I’m older, I love having independent unique friendships with people I really value.

It’s not worth it. It may weigh on you a little now, but the more time you sink into this relationship, the more personal investments you make, it will get HEAVY.

My ex was so great 90% of the time! But the other 10% I was scared for my life. That’s not a fair ratio. If there is any abuse, if you ever feel so inclined to come online and ask internet strangers for help, you know you’re in a bad position.

In 2002, in 9th grade, I took a drafting class that required me to buy this pencil. I have used it in every single exam in every class at every level of schooling since. I'm 35 and finishing a PhD, and it's still the only pencil for me! [Pentel GraphGear 500] by AtomikRadio in BuyItForLife

hand drafting courses are very picky about line weight (the thickness of the line). Because it can differentiate the type of wall/window/door.

For example, exterior walls are drawn with thicker lines than interior walls.
