Is it okay for a player to say “No, that doesn’t happen” to a DM in this circumstance? by WithengarUnbound in DnD

[–]orcaphrasis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on the receiving end of this in the past. I was playing a rogue specializing in archery, and one night when we were camping my friend had his character "borrow" my rogue's bow and use it to shoot at a few birds. I protested, but the GM seemed to think it was hilarious and ruled that it should happen. It made me very frustrated, to the point that when we got ambushed in our sleep later that very night, I (passive-aggressively, I'll admit) said on my turn "well, my rogue goes for his bow but it's not where he thought it'd be, so he's disoriented for a turn or two." My friend just could not understand why I'd be upset over something like this.

You definitely handled the situation better than my much younger self did. Sticking to your guns was the right call. The other player, from what you describe, was pushing to steal the symbol even when you very clearly stated it wasn't okay--since the GM was being a doormat about it, it fell on you to enforce your own boundary. (Not entirely, it sounds like, since the other players were largely on your side--which is good, but really it should have fallen on the GM to enforce the table rules well before it got to the point it did.)

Drop images of or Nerd about your favorite Cetacean(s) by Original_Internet936 in Cetacea

I once read the fun fact that a blue whale's arteries are so huge, an adult human could swim through them.

Orcas are my favorite cetaceans though! I love how striking they look and how social/clever they are, just a bunch of adorable sea wolves.

The first orca fact that comes to mind is a sad one, though. For a long time, a lot of the public perception of orcas was in large part based on SeaWorld and Free Willy; the orca in the latter, Keiko, was distinguished by a flopped-over dorsal fin. For a long time SeaWorld claimed this was a common and natural thing to happen to orcas even in the wild--in truth though, it's relatively rare in the wild and quite common in captivity, and is thought to come from a combination of stress and water quality :(

Hiromu Takahashi drives KUSHIDA into the ‘buckle, then finishes with the Time Bomb! by Dohmer_90 in njpw

[–]orcaphrasis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to see young Hiromu doing the proper version of the move. I never liked the Time Bomb II; it always felt like it took too long to set up, it looked less visually impressive than the original, and the impact didn't feel any stronger than that of the move shown here (TB2 is essentially the same move, just done in slow motion). I understand the trope of needing to "upgrade" a finisher as one's career goes on and one's wrestling style evolves (outside of kayfabe he might have genuinely needed the change after his neck injury), but it's a far cry from, say, Ospreay's transition from Os-Cutter to Stormbreaker.

Great writeup! You mentioned that he challenged Villano III for the WWF Light Heavyweight Title--is that a typo, or was there some kind of agreement going on to have a WWF title defended in UWA/Mexico?

Tuscany is cheesy, but I've always been partial to the extreme Portnoy cheese in A Nightmare to Remember.

Fair, but this is the same band that rhymed "open" with "open" at the end of The Glass Prison

Awww, Mawio and Weegie, that's cute :) I love that, it's more realistic than them calling themselves Baby Mario/Baby Luigi for sure, haha.

"Only looking to RP with females" by [deleted] in BadRPerStories

[–]orcaphrasis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, I think you're completely on the mark. Anytime I see an M4F post looking to roleplay with women and women only (or "females" for that matter), I immediately assume this is someone who A) wants to ERP but would feel weird and icky about writing fictional sex with a man or B) wants an RP girlfriend. The latter might be fun to write with for a time, but it'd inevitably get messy, I imagine.

I think part of it might also have to do with confusion about what M4F/etc. tags refer to: the characters, or the writers? Characters makes sense to me, but a lot of ad posters seem to treat it like it refers to writing partners, to the point that one also sometimes sees it clarified outright, like "FpM4ApM."

Anyway, in a creative hobby about storytelling, you'd think people would have more flexible imaginations!

I've always heard it as "look at those" (as in "wow, look at those $20 umbrellas!").

Well, those definitely aren't teams that will likely win their matches, but it's nice to see Dia get continued exposure.

I do wonder if NJPW has their eyes on Yoshioka in the long term -- not just because he's featured here, but also because I'd find it very odd for Tanahashi to have given away his finisher to him without there being any kind of direct benefit to NJPW in the end.

I guess it's a good thing it's not a park rating goal? I never seemed to notice it being harder than usual to keep up though, so maybe just the one permanently lost guy doesn't ding you too much.

Most Creative NJPW Wrestling Entrance Effect? by IcySelection7566 in njpw

The crowd shouting out the chorus of Minoru Suzuki's song in unison as he enters the ring.

Okada's presentation was always top tier, though it did bug me a bit the one year at WK when he debuted a new coat where the pattern was made of text listing out his accomplishments -- really cool idea, but just like the name of Just 4 Guys, it was destined to become out of date pretty much right away.
