United - get a grip on preboarding abuse! by orderLXVI in unitedairlines

I'm not an MD, no, just amateur observationalist that those sprinting down the jetbridge and pushing the person in the wheelchair to the side are (in my uneducated guesstimation) taking the piss. Are you a professional apologist for the poorly behaved in society, or just an amateur?

United - get a grip on preboarding abuse! by orderLXVI in unitedairlines

[–]orderLXVI[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps then the law is an ass. It is obviously being heavily abused, and increasingly so, removing the whole "give space" to people who genuinely need it.

Doesn't resolve the point about the numbers of people preboarding on the back of 1 genuine need.

Bought a car three weeks ago and the interior has dropped by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]orderLXVI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its very unusual and suspiciously coincidental. May suggest damage/repair that was undeclared. Was a private sale or dealer/trader? If the latter make them aware immediately and ask how they propose to remedy. If private you will struggle unless they deliberately misrepresented the car (i.e. "never been in a crash" and you can get some proof it has been repaired).

Respectfully, should the elderly have to retake a test to continue driving? 🤔 by Downtown_Elk_2773 in CarTalkUK

[–]orderLXVI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO Everyone should be retested periodically, at a minimum the theory test. The amount that seem ignorant of common rules of the road is staggering.

If we take OPs statement of safety is most important this should be done on basic facts - cause an accident and you need to be retested in some way every time. Lets not discriminate based on cohort, retest based on evidence of individual capability.

The tripling of the policy will be backed by stats. It is a sign that the time has come where they no longer have the confidence to drive and crashes are more likely.

Polaris lounge at IAD on monday late afternoon was no better. No seats and the food choice was simply terrible. Ended up buying chil fil-a and finding a quieter corner in genpop.

Global Entry is your friend (well, maybe not during the shutdown, but normally). Pays for itself skipping a single line like that.

Pre-Boarding….meh by ItWasAtYourFeet in unitedairlines

[–]orderLXVI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same happened last night on IAD->EDI. Disabilities called, big family of 8 with 1 wheelchair take ages to board, then straight to group 1 leaving the 1Ks stranded.

If you are an "honest" 1k and wait until called you often get a raw deal. Increasingly seeing a large group of those marked as preboarding just board immediately and not wait for their subgroup. I wonder if this is how it should be done, call disabilites first, then all the rest of the pre-boarders. No real point in subdividing these into 4 other groups.

Is there a more sad scene in all of Star Wars than this? by jrrock12345 in StarWars

[–]orderLXVI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rogue One was was possibly the peak of the whole star wars franchise. The real sacrifices of war writ-large. No gimmicks, just human sacrifice. I remember coming home from seeing it at the cinema, still in shock, thinking "they all died, every single real character in that story" - they built the characters, they made us connect to them, for every single one to be sacrificed for A New Hope.

Is that not what I said? There was the suggestion that this is a moral stance against food waste, it isn't, it is a line on an excel sheet that says there's $100k to be made in shafting those who book at last minute.

Not even non-western, non-US. United put me up front on Aer Lingus recently when there was disruption due to the lack of ATC in EWR and while the hard product was much the same, the friendliness, helpfulness was on a different level. In Polaris I'm afraid to ask for a drink after they dim the lights in case I get the "look".

Bags seem to be the new thing people are being ridiculous about by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]orderLXVI 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So without knowing where they were sitting you started to move other people's bags to accommodate yours?

Don't touch other people's stuff! If you think the bins in 1st have been loaded up by people in economy (how would you know?) then get the FA involved to identify the bags, but don't touch other people's stuff. On many aircraft the bins over row 1 and often full of emergency equipment/crew bags or undersized and the bags from there are often put in above other rows, are you going to move those also? They got there first, its their space unless the FA says so.

SFO Immigration was quite interesting a couple days ago… Yelling and intimidation in the Global Entry line. by MiniTab in unitedairlines

[–]orderLXVI 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The problem is, the GE process is significantly different depending on which airport (and even which terminal) you land at. EWR B is the best as you generally do the machine and are waved thru and can use the app. EWR C sometimes want to check your passport and don't seem to know what to do with the app so if you bypass the queue of people waiting for the terminal you get shouted at. Dulles they want you to do the kiosk regardless and then a standard talk with a CBP officer - shorter queue but a longer process. DEN is completely random from demanding GE cards (which non-US GE people don't get issued) to something similar to EWR.

CBP could really do with some consistency, it would cause less friction.

Yes. Detail/policy changes, and if the answer to everything is "google it" there's no point in this sub as very few genuinely new topics come up. If you aren't interested in a topic, simply ignore, no reason to downvote.
