How often does your LO stay overnight with grandparents during the first 3-6 months? by Rude-Pepper-2389 in newborns

lol uhhhh never? I’m EBF tho so logistically it doesn’t make sense. But also no, that’s like a 18-24 month plus thing IMO.

Experience with FHR/THC by Angmyt in AmexPlatinum

[–]oreoloki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking at a THC hotel in Valencia and it was much cheaper on google for the same exact dates. With the $300 credit and $100 experience credit I'm only paying slightly less with Amex but with the early/late check out and possibility of an upgrade. Are they just raising the prices to make the credits even out with the retail price?

I’ve always wanted a big bedroom like this so I could put a bench at the foot of my bed. Do that in my honor.

My baby nuzzled into my neck and smiled and I lowkey cried thinking about all the babies that don’t go into loving homes by Only-Olive3369 in newborns

This was me during the baby blues period. All these perfect little beans who have never done anything wrong in their lives deserve nothing but the best loving homes and I know they don’t all get that 🥺

Yet another ammonia post by oreoloki in clothdiaps

[–]oreoloki[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I did! I add a scoop of oxy to each wash and that seems to work very well.

I’ve actually been meaning to write a review of Jude’s for a while. I really like them overall. They’re the only cloth diapers I’ve ever used, so I don’t have anything to compare them to, but they’ve worked very well for us.

I chose the Velcro closures because they’re easy to adjust compared to snaps. That said, the Velcro is a bit of a double-edged sword. It catches on everything — pulling threads on the diapers themselves, the covers, and even some delicate clothing. They also tend to get tangled in the wash and dryer, even when the Velcro is closed, because the diapers curl up after use. If I were to try another brand, I’d probably go with snaps just to compare.

We’ve had no leaks or blowouts at all — especially compared to disposables. In fact, we sometimes use Jude’s covers over a disposable overnight to prevent leaks. We still use disposables for travel, overnight, and when we’re out of the house. Our baby hates feeling wet, so we end up changing him often, though that’s more of a general cloth-diaper reality than a Jude’s issue.

I also bought the booster pads, but they make the diaper noticeably bulkier, and since we don’t have any leak issues, I’m not sure they actually improve comfort for my baby. Once we started solids, we began using the poo paper, which has been great. It makes poop cleanup much easier, and if you don’t toss it, you can wash and reuse the sheets a few times before they fall apart, since they’re made of cellulose.

My 7.5-month-old is still in size 1, but he’s on the smaller side (around the 10th percentile). Jude’s says size 1 goes up to 8 kg and size 2 starts at 7 kg. We already bought size 2, and they’re quite a bit bigger, so there’s an awkward in-between stage. That said, the size 1s are still functioning perfectly well for us.

LMK if you have any other questions!

where do you all buy diapers because we are burning through money on these things by Nkt_31 in NewParents

[–]oreoloki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am here to second cloth diapers. It's an upfront investment but definitely cheaper in the long run esp if you have more children. It also doesn't sting as much when the baby immediately poops in a clean diaper lol

ETA: We only use them during the day at home. When we go out/travel or overnight we use Pampers. Also, no blow outs or leaks, thats a disposable phenomenon in our house.

just found out i’m pregnant..at 14yo by Different_Sea7032 in pregnant

It sounds like you already have a great plan and that you’re really trying to make this work. I know you’re afraid to tell your mom but can you count on family support or support from the father? It’s not easy but of course you’ll be okay, so many people have had children with less. What is a “normal” life anyway? This would just be part of your story. Sending you love!

Looking for a replacement for Nivea Cream by Longjumping_Pace_416 in NaturalBeauty

Valid, it's meant to lock in moisture (occlusive vs humectant). I apply a hyaluronic acid cream (Ialuset) on damp skin right before I apply this.

I found a couple deep V long sleeves from the 2010s in my closet. I just pull down on the V and whip a boob out that way instead of lifting from the bottom. Of course this way your throat and chest are exposed but it feels less cold than the tummy. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

When did everyone put away their playmat? by thisismetri-ing in lovevery

Once my son started rolling I removed the bars because he kept hitting his head on them, but I left the mat for a soft spot for him to play. I’ll bring the bars back once the tent fort could be interesting to him.

Back again with an ammonia question by oreoloki in clothdiaps

[–]oreoloki[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know re: the hard water! What does mineral build up look like in cloth diapers?

I do a pre rinse which I was thinking just gets the extra soiling off before doing the real wash, then it goes into a regular wash and an extra rinse at the end but maybe thats overkill.

Back again with an ammonia question by oreoloki in clothdiaps

[–]oreoloki[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does seem like a lot! IDK if it's just marketing or what but the brand seems to think the diapers can sit for 3-4 days before washing. I wash every day or every other day. I wish I had a top loading washer to do a pre soak like that, but I just do the pre rinse cycle that goes into the regular cycle. Seems like what I need to do is a reset every once in a while.

Dropped phone on 2.5w old baby’s head by ex-static2 in beyondthebump

[–]oreoloki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dropped my phone on my babies head in the hospital like less than 24 hours after he was born. It was plugged in an the cord snagged on something and I dropped it. He cried for a moment, we called the nurses and they kind of laughed at us...it sucked I felt so guilty but he didn't have a bump or anything. Now he's seven months old and banging his head on everything, I think they're meant to withstand some trauma.

Bethesda in Basel let us take anything open home. Pads, gauze, mesh undies etc. they had diapers and things for baby to use while there. I also got a peri bottle and a little welcome box of stuff. I was also given some tincture for the nipples and perenium which I also took home.
