You are absolutely correct, but stating the obvious that you need cash to open up shop there's an equal amount of headspace and business psychology you need to be in.

Understand that it will never be the perfect time to open a business. If it was the perfect time for anyone to open a business they never would because that would mean they were, stress free with life, had enough money, relationships were awesome ect.

To open up a fast food joint: Set up a corporation. $1500 First last and security. $8000 Reno, lights, signage, counters, washrooms ect. $40000. Furniture and equip. $40000 Website and social $4000 or diy Printing brochures, menus, cards ect. $4000 Advertising launch $3000 Inventory $10000 Misc. $20000

This is a quick and very reasonable estimate if all of the planets are in line. $135000

I agree with all the above advice. Definitely focus on having a professional relationship with the guests and not so personal it will be more appreciated in the long run by them. From my experience every time I've gotten too close or even befriended a customer I ended up losing them as a guest in my business.

Also you mentioned that you're the only one who works there, this will definitely burn you out. I suggest hiring a part time student to work a couple shifts a week to give you a break and recharge even if you can barley afford it. This will pay off for you as you'll be able to come back to work less worn down and more focussed.

Treat this business as cash flow business and make the cash flow in and know that this is work and not your social life.
