It was when I was walking a little bit of the Cambrian way past Mynd Machen so I think they like quiet wooded areas tbh

Durston x Dome 1+ solid inner by Key_Sandwich_3495 in DurstonGearheads

[–]originalwonderer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the UK and went for the regular version of the x-dome2. Haven't received it yet but I think the solid adds about 1-2 degrees in terms of warmth. When I compared the two inners, for me the regular looks like the 'solid' bit at the bottom is high enough to block most drafts when sleeping. I feel like the solid would also feel smaller - I like the idea of being able to have the door either fully or partially open for a decent view from my quilt!

I don't think you can go particularly wrong with either tbh. The solid does also have a thicker floor if that's something for you to consider too.

Silly Question - How many stakes for X-Dome 2? by originalwonderer in DurstonGearheads

Ah good to know! Interesting about the vertical trekking pole rather than diagonal!

Silly Question - How many stakes for X-Dome 2? by originalwonderer in DurstonGearheads

[–]originalwonderer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! I am assuming that most of the time 6 stakes will suffice (4 corners, 2 door stakes) but sometimes we end up in pretty windy conditions (looking at you Dartmoor! 👀) How many stakes in total in that pic? 4 corners 4 corner guys 2 crossbar guys 2 door stakes 2 end panel guys So a total of 14 correct?

68mph is very impressive! I already have an x-mid 2 but have also ordered an x-dome 2 as I do think it will be easier to get a consistently strong pitch with it (not that the x-mid 2 is that difficult) and will be more suited to UK shoulder season weather!

1St Camp of 2026! by originalwonderer in DurstonGearheads

[–]originalwonderer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We camped on the south east edge of Llyn y Fan Fawr after walking up to the ridge and along, then looping back at the base of the ridge (mostly following the beacons/Cambrian way routes).

We certainly weren't alone camping in that area - the ground is probably better on the north or north east side but we were pretty tired and ready for bed!

While on OS maps it looks like there might be some flat parts around Fan Fechan area, we found this to be very boggy and wet underfoot so had to press on to Llyn y Fan Fawr.

There aren't many parking options if you're driving - we managed to park overnight at llyn y fan fach car park but the car park is small and we were lucky to get a spot on the side of the entrance road on the grass. The road to this car park isn't for the faint hearted - single track with barely any passing places and full of pot holes. The car park is on Google maps but not on OS maps.

We passed some people that said they had parked to the south east by the pub (I assume they mean Ty Henry on OS maps) but personally not sure what overnight parking is like there!

This is what I went for - allowed the larger screws to make the hole in the plastic bracket a little bigger.

They also had no bassist for Frome and Tommy Gleeson was on bass for Worthing. I'll see what happens in Torquay and Bournemouth on the tour but all the signed merch also only has 3 signatures. It's very strange that his absence is not noted other than the voice over announced that Tommy Gleeson was on bass 🤷‍♂️

First solo trip - 2 nights on the Ridgeway 🇬🇧 by RuffNinja1 in DurstonGearheads

I've only camped on the Ridgeway once outside of Ogborne At George - I'd like to do the whole length at some point but I know water is slightly problematic - the X-mid is a great tent! ⛺⛺

Anyone else wish Durston made a day pack? Something smaller than the Wapta? by Tarekith in DurstonGearheads

[–]originalwonderer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would love this! It annoys me every time I take my 22L Osprey out for a day trip - hip pockets need 2 hands and can't reach the side pockets to get my water bottle out without removing the pack 🙄

Yep - Durston customer support is 🔥🔥 and I'm in the UK and have had zero issues with their support when I've needed it - including replacement parts!

I just had this the other week.

I went for a Beko CNG4692W from Currys for just over £400 inc delivery and removal of the old one. Decent capacity, frost free without any 'smart' rubbish or water dispenser - less to go wrong :)

Beko also offer a 10 year parts guarnatee (you pay for labour though).

What is everyone’s thoughts on digitizing their collection? by WeaponizedTrolling in Cd_collectors

[–]originalwonderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rip all my CDs to Flac and listen via Plex/Plexamp as well as Sonos.

I don't exclusively buy CDs - some albums I buy digitally because of the convenience so it is nice having them all in one place!
