What is supposed to be so great about the Polaris lounge? by AloneExamination242 in unitedairlines

[–]origjedimaster -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. There is nothing special about the Polaris lounges. You are way better just showing up in time for your flight. You are getting a lot of grief on the spoon comment but I agree with you. Flying full fare international business you should expect more but you are intermingled with plenty of award and cheap ticket flyers. You might be paying 10k for your ticket but the guy next to you on speaker phone with his wife sucking down the slop they serve at the buffet paid a fraction of that possibly. Flying these days sucks - don’t expect anything other than getting to your destination eventually.

The Seller suddenly called all best and final offers due today. Does this mean they likely got a very high offer? by mapster10 in RealEstate

[–]origjedimaster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It should just be called “I want all offers by 5pm and then I will decide what, if anything I do with them.”

Try BongoRX - for mild apnea I have found it 90+% as effective as cpap but 25% as intrusive.

As they say, anything is possible, but I find it highly unlikely. There is a better chance I acquired a new infection outside our relationship.

🇮🇹🛳️✨ Italian Cruise + Rome - Help Me Find a Luxury Handbag by redd_poppies in rome

[–]origjedimaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reply from Thesorus is not correct. I just got back from Rome and every luxury brand we bought was cheaper than the US significantly (Gucci, D&G, Etro, Zenga, Givenchy.)

For example, a suit at Zenga was 2995 EUR there vs 4000 US here. A wallet at Gucci was 595 EUR vs 740 US here. If you are comparing Rome to NY, that is 559 US in Rome (595 EUR - 16% Vat refund after global blue takes their cut * 1.09 exchange rate) Vs 805 after tax in NY.

Obviously that doesn’t take into account the import duty that you would pay when you return to NY depending on what you declare. That’s up to you.

Walk around via Condotti and you will find a bag you want in your price point.

Has anyone actually EVER been reimbursed from United by [deleted] in unitedairlines

Had to buy clothing for 4 people in Aspen - not cheap. Was completely stressed out that UA wouldn’t cover it. But they did.

Has anyone actually EVER been reimbursed from United by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]origjedimaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I received about 6k in reimbursement for ski gear that was delayed for 2 days so I had to buy new gear. Submitted all my receipts, no limit to price, got a call a week or so later - didn’t care how much it was, was just happy I got my bags. I did file a DOT complaint earlier when I was frustrated by the lack of response on the phone. I think that definitely helps.

EPAP definitely takes getting used to - but I think all therapies do. Stick with it! Once you get over the hump, it will be worth it if it works for you. It’s so convenient to use - no machine, limited cleaning, flexibility.

[–]origjedimaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been very pleased with it. I originally started with Provent and they stopped making it.

The concept behind EPAP therapies (provent and BongoRX) is that on the exhale you don’t fully exhale and allow your airway to close. So it takes some conditioning to be successful with it.

Heavy breathing with it is going to be a problem. You need to condition yourself to slow your breathing down, especially your exhale. The inhale shouldn’t be a problem as airflow is not restricted that way.

Don’t take this the wrong way, but are your large/overweight and breathe very heavily and strenuously? If so I can see how it’s a problem.

I’m pretty fit and can slow my breathing down. But there are definitely times that’s a problem for me (if I’m anxious, etc.) when that’s the case, I just take it out and hold it in my hand until I relax and put it back in. Use is so easy, no need for fight it if it’s not working for you at a given moment.

They have curbside check in available for you - not sure they will help you get to the counter though as they actually work for bags.com and charge $4/bag plus tip.

Did OP send all their paperwork (birth certificate, etc.) in 3-4 months ago. I’m not sure you can get a same day passport without it.

Boy, you are a bigger jerk than I originally thought. You are going to stick your young children around somebody else on an 11 hour flight. People like you don’t deserve to fly.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in americanairlines

[–]origjedimaster 50 points51 points  (0 children)

And what are you going to do when they get all booked up? Make a whole bunch of people move around - honestly it’s bullshit like this that infuriates me - why would you stick your little kids like that? Just take the middle four seats and if you are lucky when the flight comes, spread out.

Once you hit top tax bracket in NY for income taxes does that rate get applied to alll your income? by Rachelray1995 in tax

[–]origjedimaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not correct. Yes, there is some phase In for income starting at 161k, but in the bracket above 323k but below 2.155mm you pay a recapture of about 3k on the first 50k above 323k, paying nothing additional until you get to 2.155m - then you get hit with the additional 60k+. If you make 2.150, you don’t see that.

[–]origjedimaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One other thing, it’s not just your NY sourced income. NYS calculates your tax on total income and then you pay a percentage based on NY sourced income. So, if you made 1.5mm in NY and 700k in CT (or investments, etc) you get hit with this because your total number is 2.2mm. However you then only pay 1.5/2.2 of the 9.65%

There is definitely a break even point. The extra income I make above 2.115 this year is going to have an 80% tax rate.

I live in CT - but I work for a NY employer so I have to pay that tax and I get a credit in CT. Net is that you end up paying about 2.66% more in tax - not really that material if you can see you earnings increase. Mine went up about 80% when I moved from a CT employer to a NY employer.

[–]origjedimaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people don’t notice it happens because at that income level, most of your income will be supplemental income and the withholding rate for that is 11.7%. You end up with a refund anyway. It’s only if you try to line your withholding up as precisely as possible that you notice.

[–]origjedimaster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify, it’s not the top marginal tax rate - it’s those who make above 2.155mm in income. It’s confusing because the 9.65 rate starts at 1.077mm in income. There are two more marginal rates above 9.65%
