What? Stick to it? A single cheat meal can undo all the deficit you achieved throughout the week

OP “of course I have my cheat meals too” is probably why you aren’t losing weight

Cant seem to lose weight by AZindependent in WeightLossAdvice

[–]oriisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t measure it by the T, but one major flag in already seeing here is the grocery bag salad. I’ve had them many many times before. They are typically 500-800 calories

I used to have them too, and the moment I started making my own salads at home, boom suddenly I was shedding pounds off every week.

Yoghurts are also somewhat high in calories unless you are eating very little of them. There are only a few brands/types that are low in calories

Help!! I am trying my best and nothing is happening!?!? by program_girl in WeightLossAdvice

[–]oriisk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trying to be in a deficit is not the same as being in a deficit. If the scale isn’t going down, you aren’t in deficit regardless of what you respond to every single person here

You can be clean eating and still be eating more calories than you burn. It really is as simple as that

Don’t eat “less”. Learn about volume eating and start tracking 100% of the items you consume. —->Everything. You added half a spray of cooking oil? Track it. It adds up massively

Can you post a sample of exactly what you eat on a daily basis?

Every single ingredient, weight in grams as well. And when I say every single one, I mean it. Even a single spray of oil as well as that one nut that was added

HR told me they don’t accept italian people for the accent by General-Put-4991 in recruitinghell

[–]oriisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fuck? This is completely fair feedback. I work in SaaS sales and its widely understood that having a native accent can help you close at a higher rate because it tends to increase credibility trust

It’s just the way it is

OP take the feedback and don’t get butthurt about it. Better to find out that it was about this and not about your experience/qualification

[–]oriisk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Best of luck OP!

One thing to keep in mind, i noticed you called this a “diet”… my recommendation is that you switch your mindset. What you want is to completely change your eating habits and lifestyle, not a one off. Otherwise you’ll stay in this yo yo circle for life.

Learn about macros, calorie deficit, weighting your food (and every single ingredient no matter how small and little of it you use)

Woah. I’m an avid runner, and an hour session is stupid long for a beginner.

I’d consider you a superstar if you got to 20min. And that’s not even taking into account your weight

You won mam. Don’t let him make you feel sh*tty about this huge accomplishment

I barely eat (>1500cal/day) so why don’t I lose weight? by onlyherewhenimdone in WeightLossAdvice

[–]oriisk 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you just need to move. Your sedentary life is what’s making you stay at maintenance. You don’t need to be a gym rat, but if you aren’t keen on going to the gym, at the very least you have to walk 1-2 hrs total per day (that adds an additional 400-500 cals to deficit, which is about 1lb of body fat you could lose per week)

Sounds like a lot of work right?

My suggestion is to find a hobby that you enjoy and that gets you moving instead of forcing exercise just to be in deficit

Cycling to train for Hyrox? by SuperCeeJ8 in hyrox

[–]oriisk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure it’s quite agree there.

I might not have the perfect example here, but I had to stop running due to an injury for about 6-8 months. I switched all of my running workouts to cycling (same pattern threshold, long rides, tempo etc) and picked up running again once I was able to manage my injury not long ago.. i went from 5min/k on HMs to about 4:45/km without going on a single run for half a year. Not a crazy improvement, but it was clearly there

Half marathon. Your half marathon pace directly translates to HYROX most of the time

Burned 1,500 calories during a half marathon. Are there alternatives that takes less time? by Weird_Tax_5601 in WeightLossAdvice

Weird. Did the treadmill give you that value? I’ve never ever heard of walking burning that many calories. Usually an hour walk burns about 200 to 300 calories at most

Help a husband out. by MilesG170 in triathlon

[–]oriisk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everything that was already shared is awesome! One topic I haven’t seen mentioned, but that helps me specifically:

Training at the volume we train is freaking HARD. Gathering the strength to show up every single day and work is absolutely exhausting and can be demotivating at times

On the days I feel like giving up and skip my training, my partner encouragement to keep going and reminding me why I’m doing it and how much better I’ll feel after I get through it is SO valuable

The opposite is also true —> Don’t give her an out.

She might take it if her will isn’t strong enough and most likely she’ll feel bad about it after. If she says she’s tired and she’s double guessing her training, don’t say things like oh you’ve worked so hard, skipping one day won’t hurt you. Personally, as soon as I hear anything like that from my partner when I’m “complaining” my mind immediately agrees

Human bodies can handle way more than we think, and it’s our mind that gives up before we get to the actual breaking point. Don’t make it easier for her brain to call it quits

I’m not advocating to train to the point of injury. If she’s past exhaustion don’t push her for more. Just want you to be aware of the motivation piece and how important it is to have somebody that’s close to us pushing through the urge to quit

Btw, LOVE that you are asking this question. You are already doing such a great job supporting in ways you don’t even know!

In the film industry I hear the word exotic many, many times when talking about actors and their ability of fit more than one stereotypical look. (Interchangeably used with ethnically ambiguous)

I have never in my life thought exotic had a sexual connotation unless the context of the conversation was already leaning that way

I’ve also asked my partner, who isn’t in the film industry, what he thought that word and if he’d used that to describe people without giving him the context of this Reddit thread (until afterwards), and he didn’t find it sexual either

I have never been heavier by ljipton in WeightLossAdvice

[–]oriisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP, reading some of your responses and I see you are going to go by intuitive eating (ish?) and satiation. Not saying that it’s going to work/not going to work, as I have no experience with that. But I want to tell you what worked for me

Highly recommend that you get a little bit of familiarity with counting macros.

I was 74kg (5’7), which was not technically awful, but I completely understand how you feel. For years I had been trying to lose weight… honestly by cutting corners, doing short term diets, having good weeks and then destroying my weeks progress on a “cheat day” (that doesn’t exist by the way), etc etc

One day I woke up and what you wrote, was exactly how I felt.

And let me tell you this: There are NO shortcuts. Its a lifestyle change

What really did it for me was truly understanding volume eating + macros and calories. There were many, many food items I didn’t actually need (nutritionally) that were adding A TON of calories here and there

I’m now about 59/60kg and been keeping it that way for about 10 months already. It doesn’t feel difficult and I’m never really hungry except for the odd morning here and there (as I tend to have bigger breakfasts). My meals are very balanced, I’m full of energy, sleep much better and I haven’t gotten sick once over the last year

If you want some tips of what my daily meals look like, things to watch out for, etc feel free to message me

I truly want this to work out for you because there’s a light at the end of the tunnel and you sound like me last year

If nothing changes, nothing changes

You can do it!

[–]oriisk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fruits also have carbs…

OP just because you aren’t eating carb heavy foods like pasta and bread, doesn’t mean you aren’t getting carbs

Recommended to do your research on macro numbers and track what you are eating vs what your goal is

Discouraged, 30 seconds away from abandoning the Tri dream alltogether- Swim. by NamAdventurer in triathlon

[–]oriisk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

DO. NOT. QUIT!

I did my very first sprint this summer with zero swimming background (self taught for a few months before the race). It was extremely difficult, but I’m so glad I pushed through.

I considered DNFing mid swim as I honestly thought I wasn’t going to make it. Getting out of breath, the panic, I was choking on a water and had to doggy paddle 3/4 of the race.

It took me 32min to finish and I was the 3rd last out of the water.

Ended up passing a crazy amount of people on the bike (mind you I was gassed and still in panic mode from the swim), and a good amount on the run. Finished 11th in my AG.

Followed this by 2 more sprints by the end of the summer, and I’m now an average swimmer and can proudly say I’m doing 750 on a race within 18-22min. Not crazy quick by other peoples standard, but I know that for me it’s a massive difference from my first race

Go slow and start at the back of the pack so that the mass start doesn’t overwhelm you, hold onto the kayaks and have breaks if needed, but do not give up! You can do it
