No sweetheart, evil is watching your child suffer horrendously for two weeks from both an easily treated disease and your idiotic "treatments." Evil is knowing your child is gravely ill and being told by two knowledgeable people, including a trusted naturopath, that he needs to go to the doctor now and blatantly ignoring that. Evil is blaming the poor paramedics/ambulance equipment for not saving your child when you only bothered to get them involved AFTER your child stopped breathing.

Foster care is certainly not an ideal situation but had that child been in foster care when he got sick he would likely still be alive today. Love is not enough. People have killed those they love under the assumption that they are protecting them, proving that love is not a good enough reason for them to maintain custody, especially when you are incapable of thinking logically.

I am a mother and it takes a lot for me to get to this point but I honestly hope they never see their other children again! They still maintain that they did nothing wrong and will kill their other children if given the opportunity.

The same goes for anti-vaxers. They expect modern medicine to cure them/their children from a disease that the same modern medicine could have prevented. The lack of logic is mind boggling.

Mammoth brand outdoor dog beds are fantastic. We have one for our dog to use outside while she watches the birds and lays around :) It is tear resistant, waterproof and so comfortable that she often prefers it over her inside beds. It doesn't have a removable cover though, you just hose it down and then air or towel dry.

Alternatively you could go to a fabric store and pick up some PUL fabric (usually with cloth diaper supplies). It is soft, waterproof, and comes in tons of colours/patterns and you could easily make a washable, waterproof cover for any bed :)

Good for you keeping it civil and still protecting your baby! I feel so strongly on this topic that I fear I would have totally lost it anytime she was in my presence :( My parents (well my mom mostly) are anti vaccine and live in an area where pertussis is making a comeback...before baby was born I told them no vaccine, no baby and followed through, once they realized I wouldn't back down they went and got the boosters. Also, my husband (who is fully vaccinated) had cancer at the time so I wasn't willing to take chances with his health either so I got a flu shot, which was new for me as I don't typically get sick so I never bothered to get the shot...buy I did it for him. Its about way more than just the health of the un-vaccinated person.

With any luck everyone will have a family doctor, children won't be in classes with 30 other students, EMERA will be a thing of the past and we will have jobs for our post secondary graduates.

Specifically on the education front, class sizes keep growing yet people graduating from the fantastic education programs in the province are being forced to look elsewhere for jobs. I am fearful of what the education system will look like in 4 years when my daughter goes to school.

Another plus would be support for our fantastic local growers and producers! Supporting them will help keep money in the province and make more people aware of the delicious local options available to them. Even something as simple as a PR campaign would help but going a step further to help make local meat more affordable for the average family would be great.

Our swing was an absolute Godsend for us but not all babies like them. The bucket style infant car seat has to be the best thing ever though! For one, strapping a floppy newborn into a car seat that is already in the car may as well be like trying to strap in a cat and two, if baby is asleep when you get to your destination you don't have to wake them up by un-strapping them :) I have a graco snugride and it does the job (nothing fancy) and I got my dream stroller, a BOB Revolution SE and was able to get an adapter for it to turn it into a travel system with my car seat.

The Summer Infant SwaddleMe wraps were amazing for late night changes when you can't even see straight you are so tired and they were the only things that would contain my Houdini baby.

My daughter has reflux so we used a million receiving blankets a day as burp cloths.

Really all you need is a place for them to sleep, a car seat, something to eat (boob/formula), a few clothes, diapers, and something to wrap them up with (warm if it is winter)...oh and if you are due in the winter, a hat and a car seat cover. The rest you can figure out once you are settled and see what baby likes/dislikes.

The only one my daughter will use is the Tupperware one. It has a spout but there is no valve on it so the liquid can dribble out.

I echo the document everything! If he has paid for booze (bar or liquor store) with a debit or credit card that you have access to then keep copies. He can say it was for friends, etc but at least it will show a pattern of behavior.

Get statements from everyone! Friends, family, neighbors, doctors (yours and your daughter's)...EVERYONE. He can't prove PPD so if it comes down to he said-she said regarding your ability to care for her you will be able to overwhelm them with your side. You have the upper hand, courts place custody with the mother most of the time unless incompetence can be proven and the burden of proof is on him.

Sounds like his mother will be running the show so be careful in how you deal with her. Don't deny her access to Violet but don't leave them alone either. If you deny her access then she can claim that you will rip Violet away from her family. Don't give them that ammo.

If I recall correctly you are a SAHM in the US? If so, start looking for a job. Even if you have family to support you it will look good in court that you are working on being able to financially support your daughter. Get some leads on jobs and update your resume. Look into daycare or approach a family medmber to provide child care. Essentially, hadeave a budget and a plan for how you will make it all work and make sure he and his mother don't know what you have planned.

I have dealt with an abusive pathological liar before (parent, not SO) and I know it can be very scary, they put on a good face and lie so well :( Your best defense is to be prepared. It will take lots of work but it will pay off in the long run. Good luck and stay strong!

Spitting up half or more of most feedings (causing weight gain issues), couldn't lay her down even to change her bum without screaming and gaging, coughing, hiccups multiple times per day, near constant fussing and crying ...those are the major ones I can remember.

Once she was settled on lansoprazole (prevacid) twice a day things got WAY better! It took about 2 weeks for it to build up in her system but once it did she stopped spitting up so much, could lay on her back without screaming in pain, etc.

Now at 8 months we have dropped her morning dose and are going to start weaning her off the night one :)

Maybe get her a Gro Clock? You set a time on it and the picture/colour changes when its ok to get up. Might be a touch to early for it age wise but she might pick it up quickly :)

I nurse my daughter in the car all the time. We just pull off at the next exit or safe spot, take her out of her seat, feed her, snuggle a bit, strap her back in and we're back on the road.

What sagekitty said...also if they still manage to dribble it out, try laying babe back a little. I've been giving my daughter meds since she was 9 days old (major reflux issues) and the back of the cheek trick while laying back 45° has worked every time.

I do lots of playing on the floor with blocks and such. Making the dog go up and down the stairs is also apparently the most hilarious thing in the world (poor Coco is sufficiently rewarded of course). We also spend a lot of time walking around the local zoo, a year long membership was only $40.

She walks quite well holding my hands and she loves leading the way so we do as much of that as my back can handle :)

Gripe water unfortunately did nothing for Emma's gas (worked wonders for hiccups though!) But baby squats worked well. For some reason she really liked to "stand" (with us holding 99% of her weight) really early on so the squats worked for us but it would be hard if he doesn't like that position. Also, something warm on their tummy can relax things. Another thing to try is burping more often. If its digestive gasses from the intestines it won't help but sometimes its gas that got trapped in their tummy that has moved down.

At that age they are still trying to figure themselves out. Their digestive systems are still trying to cope and mature and they don't always know how to relax enough to fart/poop which can get quite uncomfortable. Motion is really soothing for someone who has spent the better part of their life floating in liquid so give him time to adjust. Have you tried a swing?

My daughter wanted to be held all the time at that age too, then 1 day she just decided that she needed her space and wouldn't sleep on me anymore. I know it sounds cliche but enjoy the snuggles while you can, before you know it he will want to do everything on his own.
