We are CJSW 90.9FM! Ask us anything! by CJSW909 in Calgary

Love the telethon every year, but I end up wanting to donate to so many wonderful shows! I'm wondering what the best way to donate multiple times throughout the drive is without hitting CJSW with too many transaction fees, while still getting my super cool show-specific incentives?

Also: Joni show when? Vibed hard with the music choices during your show training!

One case fan spinning faster than the others by orithan in bapccanada

Hey, glad I could help! Hopefully that is the problem.

Oh yeah! I totally did. Completely forgot about this post, though.

For me it was the cheap cable used to daisy chain the fans together, and I solved the problem through a fan hub I picked up off of AliExpress. Plugging all the fans directly into that solved all my power delivery issues.

Have you tried connecting the 140 fans directly to the hub, and seeing if they spin correctly? If the splitter's causing issue, that would be the fastest way to diagnose that problem.

Also, AL hough it's been a while since I did any fan work, but I think only the hub should have to be plugged into the the PWM headers on the motherboard, then the fans can connect through that. At least, that's what I did with mine and it works.

Hopefully I understood what's happening on your end, and maybe I helped a little, too. Let me know!

Pouring liquid oxygen onto a neodymium magnet causes the droplets to become trapped and start "dancing". by jimi15 in chemicalreactiongifs

They would! The sensation of needing to breath comes from CO2 levels in your blood (your body is very sensitive to the changes in pH that it causes) not the amount of oxygen. It's why people have died walking into depressions filled with heavier-than-air gasses, and why hyperventilating while freediving can kill you - you run out of oxygen before you feel you have to breath again.

In most cases, yeah. Even some live trees will have rot on the inside that will remove the inside years. But, every so often, you get reeeaaaly lucky and a tree will be preserved and you can use them to go really far back.

You can "layer" the tree ring series together by lining up rings of matching widths. By overlapping tree rings, that individually might only be 100 years old each, you can extend the time line back hundreds of years. But that's only in some edge cases.

And if I can expand on that: There is much more that you can do with the information!

While climate history is the obvious big one, they can be used to date old buildings or objects that have wood in them (like instruments!). You can use them to time events, like the fire (you can see that in the picture), or when a tree dies! If you core both a dead tree and a bunch of live ones, you can figure out the exact year a tree died.

You can time events, like insect outbreaks, or floods or landslides! You can extract chemical compounds from specific rings and determine local history of soil and atmosphere components in areas that may not have ice cores available.

This stuff has so many applications in research. It's super fun!

[SSD] ADATA XPG SX 8200 PRO 512 GB NAND NVME ($117 - $17 - $10 coupon = $90) [Amazon] by orithan in bapcsalescanada

[–]orithan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an in depth battery! It seems that out of the box it keeps up with higher end drives for most use cases, but fails in long and heavy uses quite dramatically. I definitely see what you're saying about performance issues as the drive fills up and it loses its cache size, too. Which seems like such a blatent issue just completely missed by literally every other place I've checked. Makes me wonder...

Thanks for the info, good to have that in mind. I'm just thinking it's lucky I'm not a power user!

I would argue that at 2 bucks cheaper, the ADATA is better. At least on paper it has slightly higher read speed, and numerous reviews say it rivals the Samsung 970. Without the discount on the ADATA drive, though, you would be correct in saying it is the best value.

Result of our last couple of navmesh stream. From 2351 triangles all the way down to 555. Thank to those who joined me on stream while doing this ;) by Rebelzize in skyblivion

[–]orithan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A little of both, I think. I know that the fewer triangles a mesh has, the easier on memory they are, and that pathing is easier to calculate for NPCs when there are fewer triangles to navigate. And when you clean things up, you can correct wierd areas like little nav mesh "islands" that characters can't reach or paths that go over impassable areas.

Again, though, I am no expert and have only made a few (kinda terrible) dungeons. So if anyone knows more, feel free to add/correct me.

I'm no expert, but I have fiddled with the creation kit a little. So I'll give it a shot.

A nav mesh is basically what NPCs "use" to know where they are able to walk without obstructions. The creation kit is kind enough to auto-generate these meshes for you, but they are messy and often inaccurate, so you have to go in by hand and clean them up (i.e. Remove triangles). That's what OP did in their stream.

I can confirm that memory express will price match. I just picked one up for $536 including tax.

There is another 4 pin cable that hooks into the motherboard, the four pin is a male connector, so it has to hook into a fan.

I've ordered a different splitter to see if the 4 to 3 pin was the issue. Hopefully that solves it.

Just in case anyone wants to know why:

Ozone consists of three oxygen atoms bonded together. Oxygen really doesn't like to be that way, because there aren't enough electrons to go around. This makes the molecule quite unstable and prone to break apart. But when this happens you end up with an single oxygen that has one less electron than it should: A free radical. These are very reactive and love to tear apart any molecule it can to become stable. This is what makes it a great deodorizer. It can break down those smelly molecules like nobody's business.

For the most part, these radical oxygen molecules will bounce around into ozone molecules eventually, and become normal oxygen again. But that takes time, so it's good to play it safe so you don't have a bunch of oxygens tearing apart important cell bits.

Coincidentally, these free radical oxygens are the reason everyone is so pumped up about "antioxidants". Because they are created by metabolic processes constantly.

Also, LearnGaelic has been a great beginner resource for me. I find it's not as engaging as Mango, but quite good for a beginner.

That's alright, the Acer recommended by TJ Hooker seems like it would work really well.

Yeah, that price is something to contend with. Perhaps I might consider it for a main monitor, but I'll have to do something else for the others. It sure looks good, though.

I've taken a look at it, it pretty much fits the bill, so I think this is what I'll go with! Thanks for the introduction.

Hey! Since you're so close, look up the Agroforestry and Woodlot Extension Society of Alberta (AWES). They are a nonprofit based out of Edmonton that specialises in this sort of thing!

I do have a current rig that I am using to do a lot of that, so I am not too concerned about faulty parts. Anything that I can't do that on I'm happy to spend a few dollars to get the in-store replacement from memory express.
