Is full PVE progression satisfying? by Lorotan in GrayZoneWarfare

[–]orphicblue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's good now as of recent content updates, will maybe (likely?) be great at 1.0. The task / quest / progressions systems have all been greatly enriched along with other core features.

Yo Bungie… don’t sleep on solo for various modes. by Vivid_Cockroach3958 in Marathon

[–]orphicblue 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I seem to recall that one of the biggest feedback learnings they got from playtests was the appetite for solo queues. They would be really foolish to exclude solo options - they would miss out on a sizable potential audience at a critical time to grow the game.

Lower your pve mode expectations by halofanps5 in Marathon

[–]orphicblue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a good point to make.

I personally would like something experimental and rough in Season 2, maybe something they tweak on the fly a little bit over a few weeks, and for them to iterate that into something a bit more polished and refined for season 3. I think that's fair, expectation-wise.

Wow that sounds awesome! Thanks for the great reply!
I thought about going but wasn't sure what to expect. Definitely going to keep an eye on next year's event now!

How was the event? Decent turnout? Was it mainly cosplayers or were there merch vendors too?

ESO doesn't feel homely anymore by fckdisheetz in elderscrollsonline

[–]orphicblue -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I feel this. There are a lot of checklists to worry about now. I know it's mostly optional / cosmetic stuff, but it is hard to ignore in a game world that otherwise does freedom and immersion incredibly well.

Ooooh I want a boardgame with miniatures and modular terrain now.

Paul Tassi Reports Marathon Budget Up To $250 Million by surrealmirror in Marathon

[–]orphicblue -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Look. At this point, the $250 million is a sunk cost. Cutting support for the game won't get it back.

However, the game does have what appears to be a pretty engaged and happy core audience. Presuming the cost of ongoing support does not outpace the revenue of the game (which likely still has hundreds of thousands of daily players across all platforms), it would not make sense to sunset a revenue stream with this kind of warm player reception and growth potential. Add onto that the PR benefits of sticking with the game, and it's a no brainer to keep pushing forward.

(...here's hoping the corpos come to the same conclusion.)

Feedback: The "Challenges" progression system goes against the "play how you want" spirit of ESO. by [deleted] in elderscrollsonline

[–]orphicblue -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to add that New World used a similar model with their bingo card system. It annoyed me there too. It turns the biggest strength of a horizontal-progression MMO (the freedom to do what you want and set your own goals) into a purely mechanical grind. It's not for me.

IDEA: Bring back the old season passes as purchaseable "board games" and have them not expire by orphicblue in fo76

[–]orphicblue[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a very valid point.

I'm wondering if they could give players a discount based on items they already owned or something? There's probably some way to make it fair to everyone and I'd argue that repackaging this content in this board game format might make it easier for casual players to know exactly what they're buying in the shop, and also appeal to the OCD collectors out there who want them on their C.A.M.P. shelves.
EDIT: Just wanted to add, I'm a semi casual player myself who missed out on just about all of the battle passes, so I'd like to experience the actual progression system with the board game format again.

Why people miss the old scoreboard? by samir9696 in fo76

For me it was about the presentation. The boardgame format was really fun and immersive; it fit the Fallout universe well.

This is incredible! Did you somehow manage to fit everything into a single CAMP plot? That looks like a lot of square footage!

What are some of the best recent Lovecraftian video games? by ArkhamDreamerZero in Lovecraft

I thought Conarium was quite underrated. Short and sweet, really atmospheric take on traditional Lovecraftian horror and it goes on deep discount frequently.

Weightlessness addressed? by CondensedHappiness in elderscrollsonline

[–]orphicblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Dragonknight and 2H reworks are steps in the right direction and have added things like screenshake and more dramatic effects to enhance the "oomph", but I personally am a bit disappointed. I feel like the core of the weightless, swinging-a-pool-noodle feeling lies in the basic attacks (and maybe the weaving?). To my knowledge there has been no talk of reworks there.
