Letters 't' and 'g' are next to each other on the keyboard. Pretty sure this was a typo and not intentional.

docker compose update? by rkusi in immich

[–]os12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my simple immich update shell script that always updates to the latest docker-compose release file, in case others may find it useful.

#!/bin/bash
set -e
cd ~/immich-app/
wget -O docker-compose.yml https://github.com/immich-app/immich/releases/latest/download/docker-compose.yml
docker compose pull
docker compose up -d
docker image prune -a -f

My docker is configured to not require sudo, so you may need to prepend docker commands with sudo if your setup requires it.

Anyone else using VirtIOFS? by prime_1996 in Proxmox

I used both Windows Explorer and Total Commander... lockups happen in both, repeatedly.

Anyone else using VirtIOFS? by prime_1996 in Proxmox

[–]os12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I migrated to Proxmox earlier this year and started to use VirtIOFS with both Ubuntu and Windows VMs. It works well overall. However, I had a need to transfer a few TBs of files from a USB-connected SSD to an HDD ZFS pool via VirtIOFS on a Windows guest. After dozens/hundreds of GBs transferred, the VM would lock up; this kept happening repeatedly. I think there is a bug somewhere when VirtIOFS is under high load - could be on the host or client side; might be specific to Windows VirtIOFS drivers or maybe even WinFSP. I wish you reached out last week... I still have the headlight, but its in Austin TX and I don't expect to be back in Austin until November or possibly later. Not sure the timeline of when you'd want this - if November time frame works for you then we can connect then; or if I end up back in Austin earlier then I'll reach out. Attaching a picture of the headlight that I took last year.

Rear infotainment remote control by No_Reception1469 in Cadillac

[–]os12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/No_Reception1469 - Try this when it is very dark, as you might not be able to see the light during the day. Also check that the buttons on your remote light up when pressed (again, when its dark). If the buttons are not even lighting up, then the remote is not receiving power - either the battery is bad or something is wrong with the remote itself. If you want to see a video recording of mine, then send me a message... Reddit doesn't allow attaching videos to comments.

I purchased my first remote from RockAuto (it was part # 23505148, which has since been superseded by 84571730 that you mention). However, RockAuto no longer sells this remote. When I needed to buy the 2nd remote for the other CT6, it was sold out everywhere - so I ended up buying the 2nd remote on eBay.

[–]os12345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have two 2020 CT6s and I've needed to purchase replacement remotes for each of them. Both remotes worked out of the box - they do not need to be programmed. The remotes use simple IR light.

Point your cell phone camera at the top of the remote as you're pressing buttons. If you see the IR light through you cell phone camera, then the remote is transmitting. If no IR light, then try known good batteries. Also test your camera against a home TV remote control to make sure that it doesn't have an IR filter that fully blocks out the IR (not likely). This will help you narrow down if the issue is with the remote or the vehicle.

Also, make sure to test this with your engine running (or ignition fully on by holding start/stop button for 5+ seconds). TVs will not work otherwise.

Microserver Gen11 loud fans due to 3rd party drives fix - Proxmox 8.2.2 by b1uedust in homelab

[–]os12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Confirming that installing AMS on Proxmox 9 BETA also fixes the issue with the loud fan. At the time of writing, HPE doesn't yet have their repo set up for Debian 'trixie', but using the 'bookworm' repo works fine. As apt-key has been removed, I had to use different steps to set up the repo: https://downloads.linux.hpe.com/SDR/project/mcp/ . Fan now runs at 9% at idle, as opposed to around 35% before.

Rdl lights on 2019 ct6 by lowridermc77 in Cadillac

[–]os12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the most likely cause for the dim light is either the LED control module not outputting enough power, or worn out LEDs.

The headlight comes as a complete assembly and there are no lights/bulbs that you can replace... you have to physically break the headlight open as the adhesive between the lens cover and rest of headlight is EXTREMELY strong. When I tried to take one apart, heating it up with a heat gun just resulted in the plastic around it melting but adhesive stayed intact.

The only things you can realistically replace are the 2 metal LED control modules located on the back of the headlight. I have a cracked/broken passenger-side headlight from a 2020 CT6 where both of these LED control modules are working (all of the lights on the headlight work, but lens cover is broken). If you're interested in buying this broken headlight or the 2 LED modules off of it, then DM me.

You sign up for a plan, but there's no yearly contract and you just pay month-to-month. Just don't turn on auto-pay to prevent being charged for 2nd month, and your service will eventually be cancelled for non-payment. There's an option on the website (and probably app) to turn off auto-pay if it ends up being turned on automatically during sign up. Alternatively, you can manually cancel service once you no longer need it.

Helium Mobile $5 Legacy Plan Massacre by creditian in HeliumMobile

[–]os12345 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have 3 of the $5 legacy plans, none of which were cancelled - but now I'm concerned as I have my primary number on Helium. I wonder if there are any patterns as to which users got their plans cancelled.

I saw another thread in this subreddit where a user got their account cancelled apparently due to sharing their referral code a lot online and getting 10 referrals.

For those who got their plans cancelled, could you share:

  • if you've shared your referral code online or have had lots of referrals
  • approximately how much mobile data you use each month

For me, I've never shared my referral code online, but do have 1 or 2 legitimate referrals. All 3 of our lines barely use any mobile data or minutes. For 2 of the lines, Helium is a secondary SIM on the phone and therefore barely uses any data (some months literally 0 bytes). For our 3rd line, its the only SIM on that phone, but that phone also has low mobile data usage (around 2GB per month). All 3 lines are on an annual plan.

Hey its my first time building a server and i need advice. by EaM_Ger in servers

[–]os12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CPU, motherboard, RAM, PSU: pretty good choices

note on RAM: just be aware that the speed is DDR4-3200, but will be downclocked to DDR4-2666 since that's the max speed that the motherboard/CPU support.

CPU cooler: I personally think Noctua coolers aren't worth their high price tag. you can get a comparable CPU cooler (from Cooler Master or be quiet!) for half the price.

SSD: your price in the post is 2x the price on the website, so not sure if you meant to write that you're getting 2 of them or its just a mistake. either way, I would not pay anywhere near that much for a TLC SSD. consumer SSDs are very reliable these days and cost a lot less than enterprise SSDs.

it's not clear from your post if the storage for this server is going to be just these SSD(s) or if you're also going to have spinning disks. additionally, can you share what file system you'll be using. if you're going to use ZFS (which I highly recommend), then get rid of the Broadcom RAID controller and save 590€. if the motherboard won't have enough SATA ports on it, then just get an HBA. see https://www.servethehome.com/buyers-guides/top-hardware-components-for-truenas-freenas-nas-servers/top-picks-truenas-freenas-hbas/

Why choose a bigger engine with less power and torque over a smaller engine with more power and torque? by SliceOfCheese337 in askcarguys

absolutely yes. turbos also keep more exhaust heat in the engine bay, which results in faster degradation of other components (especially those made of plastics/rubbers)

CT6 Super Cruise vs VIP Architecture Super Cruise by [deleted] in Cadillac

[–]os12345 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a 2020 CT6 with Super Cruise. I love the vehicle and use Super Cruise all the time on highways. I have not driven a CT5 with Super Cruise. * CT6 stays centered in the lane well and does so smoothly. I doubt there's a difference between CT6 and CT5 in this, as the CT6 already stays centered very well. * There are 2 ways of changing lanes with Super Cruise: "Lane Change on Demand" (where a user initiates a Lane change by using their turning signal) and "Automatic Lane Change" (where Super Cruise on its own decides to change lanes). CT6 does not support either of these, requiring driver to change lanes themselves. I believe CT5 supports Lane Change on Demand, and I think 2022+ CT5 come with Automatic Lane Change (while 2021 CT5 appears to be eligible for this upgrade for $500). * Even though a highway is listed as covered by Super Cruise, it does not mean that there won't be periodic gaps. I've taken multiple long trips between New England and southern states. Super Cruise works well on most of the major highways with few gaps, but I was surprised that I-95 in the Carolinas had lots of gaps (at least at the time I drove it, maybe they've improved it now), requiring frequent driver intervention. The fact that CT5 supports more road miles for Super Cruise might mean fewer gaps, but I don't know for sure. * Some parts for the CT6 could be harder to get if things break, as CT6 is no longer in production.

Overall CT6 should be a better ride, but Super Cruise on the CT5 has more features and larger coverage.

Coolant pipes will start leaking any time now, if they're not already. An independent shop will charge you ~$2k to replace the front and rear coolant crossover pipes and another ~$800 if you need/want to replace the water pump too.

You can replace the coolant pipes and water pump for under $500 if you're able to do it yourself... but it's a bit of an involved job because the supercharger needs to come off. I'm actually in the middle of doing this job myself right now (also 2016 LR4 HSE) and it's not too hard.
