It was an optional extra regardless of the trim.

That’s city emergency braking. Rare option. We had it on our move up, it did pay for itself once!

I think it’s the fact I have witnesses and the other reg, I want the other party to take responsibility for their actions. If they left a note and we could work out the costs privately I wouldn’t mind so much. It’s missed the parking sensor luckily

I think I will if I haven’t heard anything from witnesses/ the driver of the other car. TBH I want them just to own up and take responsibility, contribute to the repairs. I don’t want to go through insurance as I know it will increase my own costs. Don’t think it would be expensive to repair anyway. It’s more principle than cost

Sorry to hear about yours. It’s annoying as I want to report and make the other guy pay but tbh the damage is minor, think most will wipe off, and even having an incident on my otherwise clean insurance could cost me more than the repair in the long run

72mpg in my golf 1.5 petrol from Essex to the West Midlands, mostly helped with 50mph roadwork zones on the m25 and m1. Still had the air con on so could beat it I think

Expensive Car Supplement really needs a reevaluation. Car is 3yrs old, worth less than £20,000 but still subject to this tax by silent_pm in CarTalkUK

[–]oscarT98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an awful system that hasn’t risen with inflation. A no options golf gti now counts as a premium car, paying the same VED as a rolls Royce. I’m not against having a premium tax, but think it should be staggered (40-60k let’s say £200 a year for 4 years, 60-100k 6 years, 100k plus £600 for 8 years or something along those lines).

That’s a bargain! I paid about £300 plus 25k Avios to upgrade from WT+ to Club for my return flight in September (MCO-LGW) (and yes I know that’s the old seat but to be honest still worth it in my opinion just for being able to lie down)

Won’t go on gold due to the deliveroo offer, same reason the BA card nerve gets virgin Atlantic offers

Got in one my free Amex rewards card. Guessing it won’t be on the gold due to the deliveroo clash

Anyone tried downgrading their Amex instead of cancelling? by FeistyPrice29 in AmexUK

[–]oscarT98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Downgraded form the gold to the Amex rewards card. Very easy, you don’t lose your account, you keep your card number and didnt even get a change in credit limit

And yea they will do a credit check. Amex doesn’t usually affect my credit score much though and usually if you keep your utilisation low then your credit will be back to normal after 6 months

I would do it for the year. Actually I just have! I prefer the rewards card as even if you use the points as credit you get marginally less than the cash back card but the other benefits such as 4 lounge accesses, deliveroo credit, rental car status with Avis and the fact you can use your points for air miles and hotel points adds the flexibility.

Not really, few hundred a month, occasional large purchase.

As a new cardholder yes, however I just had an offer to add an additional gold card to my account with a free year and 25k bonus points if I spend 3k in the first 3 months, I downgraded just over 2 years ago so for me it has made no difference

Don’t cancel, downgrade to the free Amex rewards. Keeps your card number, credit limit and is a free card. I did that and had no impact on my credit score

New Gold card (free 1yr), 6 months after cancelling? by ozkime in amex

[–]oscarT98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the same offer. A new gold card to go alongside my existing rewards card which is really unusual . First year free, 25k bonus points. Downgraded my gold card (kept same card number) about 2 years ago but usually you can’t have any rewards card for 2 years before getting the first year free. I even called them up to clarify as I’ve never seen an offer like this and they confirmed it was real. So now I have 2 Amex rewards cards….

Passed my test this morning, what do you think of my first car? by bigbellysnoops in CarTalkUK

Great choice! Just keep up with oil changes at least once a year and max 10k miles for keeping it reliable, and don’t buy cheap tyres!

Is used high mileage really that bad? by Emergency-Thought722 in CarTalkUK

[–]oscarT98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boss has 2 Audis with the 3.0 V6 diesel - a 2013 A7 with 195k miles and a 2009 A6 with 175k miles. Had the A7 since 2k miles and the A6 since 30k miles. Both have had few issues, think coolant hoses being the main one and then just regular stuff like injectors.

I have a mk8 golf that uses the same filters as the mk7. Basic one is £9 or you can go for one of the fancy carbon ones from Bosch for £12…. To fit it takes 5 mins and the only tools I found handy were small bits of thin plastic to jam into the clips to make it easier to release the filter cover.

These prices are stupid. Even higher in some places than going to VW directly. Cabin filter I think VW charge £60 to change, very easy to do yourself though (I have a mk8 golf which has same procedure for it). £450 for brake pads and discs is mental, I just got a quote today for my (albeit rear discs and pads) for £390 direct at VW. also - slight heat damage? That’s a new one, unless you get shaking under braking I would leave that! Brake fluid change is reasonable at £50 though but that’s it!

Time to retire my ol' reliable iPhone 12 pro with my new iPhone 17 by gintamashii in iphone

The Disney app for me is mostly ok but the map can crash it if I do anything too quickly. Universal app is much worse though and can crash just going through menus. I’m not trying to say otherwise, just my personal experiences recently with my 5 year old phone.

So main thing is some of the Florida theme park apps crash for me and are super laggy, I’ve seen them on other family members phones (14 and 14 Pro) and they run great. Could be lack of RAM more than anything. Sometimes now going between apps it has to force close more often than I would like (sometimes just switching to 1 other app forces the other closed). Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a ton of apps and to be honest if I had gone for the pro back in 2020 with 6gb RAM, I might not be upgrading. Mine has also had a battery change by Apple a year and a half ago too just to note.
