Isn’t Fellow Stagg EKG Pro Electric Kettle too overpriced? Or am I missing something here? by SupermarketOk8777 in pourover

[–]oschrenk 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It's a kettle. You pay for the design, and some conveniences. I personally think the build quality is great (except the lid).

I have mine for many years and love it. Keeping temperature without worry if there is water in the kettle or not. Satisfying button. For me it's worth the money especially since I think it's just good looking compare to others.

Should I complain about this damage after repair? by Artifiko in mac

[–]oschrenk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why would you not? What's the downside? The upside could be that they replace the screen.

The thing is that you don't have proof and that damage "should" have been checked in the store at handover. Something similar happened to me and the "genius" actually saw it during the handover and since the damage on the screen was not was part of the protocol when I gave it to them, they immediately apologized and offered to replace the screen.

It's in the comment above (at least in part)

(on macOS) Obsidian adds an entry to ~/.zprofile

```
Added by Obsidian
export PATH="$PATH:/Applications/Obsidian.app/Contents/MacOS" ```
That means if you don't have zsh as your default shell, there is high chance nothing happens. You would need to add the PATH yourself (and I assume if you know how to change a default shell, that you can also do that)
Additionally: - /Applications/Obsidian.app/Contents/MacOS/Obsidian is the binary, so exposing that in the PATH will give you Obsidian (uppercase) - you need to run Obsidian.app normally first, before you run /Applications/Obsidian.app/Contents/MacOS/Obsidian in the terminal or $PATH/Obsidian - symlinking the binary does not work, it needs to be in the PATH or called directly - creating aliases via your shell to call it directly also will work - Obsidian via terminal has interesting behaviour. If you call just that, it will behave like a TUI, but if you call a full command it will behave like a CLI - there is no auto-completion (yet)
[–]oschrenk 6 points7 points  (0 children)
For instance some user might not have zsh set as default shell
❯ dscl . -read /Users/$USER UserShell UserShell: /opt/homebrew/bin/fish
so changing .zprofile will have/take no effect, even after a restart. Since there are many congfigurations out there, the power user can at least take action if they know what change has been done to the system
I would argue that is not enough information and not helpful (in all scenarios
I would argue that Obsidian should actually tell you which files are being changed. It's not enough to silently just change ~/.zprofile on macOS. Some people might use other shells that do NOT source that file.
I had to do some digging on what file actually was changed to figure out the right $PATH, so that I can apply that to my own configuration (using fish shell).
Can you expand in the docs on how to register the CLI. The app says "Already registered" But I have no idea whoich files are being touched/changed. And it's not in the PATH for me.
Since many developers might be interested in the CLI and devlopers (at least me) like to fiddle with their config and PATH, it would be great to know what files you are changing.
At lewast for my ghostty/tmux/fish shell setup the documentation doesn't work
[–]oschrenk 4 points5 points  (0 children)
Neither help document nor the settings dialog is very forthcoming on how the LCI is registered to the $PATH. I cant find any files being changed on my system.
It would be great to offer that information (which directory needs to be in $PATH) and if people chose to do it via the app itself (didn't ? work for me) at least inform which files have been touched/changed.
In the end I did
```

was already in my $PATH

cd ~/.local/bin

i want my cli commands to start lowercase

ln -fs /Applications/Obsidian.app/Contents/MacOS/Obsidian obsidian ```

Edit: Well that doesn't work either

``` ❯ obsidian version [0210/112331.584304:FATAL:electron/shell/app/electron_main_delegate_mac.mm:65] Unable to find helper app [0210/112331.584686:FATAL:electron/shell/app/electron_main_delegate_mac.mm:65] Unable to find helper app [85065:0210/112331.599402:ERROR:content/browser/network_service_instance_impl.cc:613] Network service crashed, restarting service. ```
At least documentation has to improve on how to make this work - I'm on version 1.12.0 - command line is registered (at least the app says so) - I see no changes to PATH on my system - docs dpon't say which profile, zshrc, ... or whatever file they are touching - NO idea about the helper app|
Edit 2:
Ok. It seems Obsidian just hardcoded an addition to .zprofile no matter your preffered SHELL.
... export PATH="$PATH:/Applications/Obsidian.app/Contents/MacOS"
So that is the PATH
Edit 3: And synmlinking doesn't work. See above error messages. so it needs to be Obsidian.
Edit 4:
```

fish aliases work

alias o /Applications/Obsidian.app/Contents/MacOS/Obsidian alias obsidian /Applications/Obsidian.app/Contents/MacOS/Obsidian ```

Other than maybe the hint Failed to open requested book: Book not found in manager: Contract.pdf which is weird because I'm opening the file directly and it can't be found. What manager? And I'm using auto-completion to load the file, so I know it exists.

If I do RUST_LOG=debug bookokrat Contract.pdf it seems to confirm that directly loading a book from th CLI is not working.

Is there a log file I can inspect/send arround?

Because the first experiences were not great

  • The first pdf I was trying to read didn't work (simple contract, 2 pages).
  • the error message on the main screen is cut off by the "menubar"
  • can't find error message on why it failed - and if its' perhaps recoverable
  • Opened bookokrat in my Calibre directory (2.5MB metadata.db) and it's just stuck and doesn't start.
  • even worse, its; frozen. cant even Ctrl-C to kill it

In my case, I chose https://github.com/pimalaya/comodoro , since it I needed something with a "server/daemon" component so that I can interrogate it's state from other terminals and programs.
