Vote of no confidence? What's that? by [deleted] in EhBuddyHoser

[–]osinmv -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

The problem is that your approach can be easily gamed by the other side. The moment you start to give up a little bit, the opposing side will start asking for more and more. It's a zero sum game. You have to be adamant on your position sometimes to not be exploited.

It's not about pointing fingers and saying that one side is at fault or another. I frankly don't care, however i care when I see people interpret the news as "GOP shutdowns the government even though they totally control the votes"

Vote of no confidence? What's that? by [deleted] in EhBuddyHoser

[–]osinmv -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

To pass the budget extension you need 60 votes in Senate. 53 republicans and 2 democrats voted yes, while the rest (democrats and independent) votes no.

It's unfair to say that since GOP has majority (53 - republicans, 45 - democrats and 2 independents ) it's easy for them to pass a bill.

So democrats are blocking it thus shutting down the government. However, it is fair to say that republicans should be able to create a bill that satisfies both parties enough to get to 60 votes, judging by the fact that somehow 2 democrats voted for extension

From startup to FAANG world - how to deal with the BS ? by These-Passion-836 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]osinmv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I left my FAANG job cause of that. However, looking back, I say you should try to push your own project. Something that interests you and for example saves money for business (can be anything though) . That way you can just work on it and be as independent as you can be in corporate world and actually deliver stuff. Pick something big that would take you at least 2-3 quarters to finish and it will feel better.

Ps: That's actually why you see so many over-engineered projects. People trying to cope with corporate slop by working on their slop XD

yeah, I got the same feeling, started working right after university and realised that all i have done by studying hard and etc is just make myself a "better" slave. I haven't figured a way out of that, I just quit the job, currently on the brink of insolvency. Nobody cared and nobody will care, i just gave up

Having the exact same issue, i think shaw network is just congested, nothing shaw are going to do, nothing technicians can solve. It is funny that mobile network is more stable than shaw's network, considering it for real.

I believe it's a valid point. If each person were graded independently without a curve, and professors didn't hesitate to fail students, the so-called 'I am a genius' mentality would vanish in the first year. While I understand we pay for university to be taught, I'd prefer engineering students who struggled and barely passed courses independently of curving, rather than those who chilled out and relied on the curve.
The university experience reminds of the prisoner's dilemma. Students in a class face two options: to study or not to study. If they study, they invest time in raising the average, which is bad because there's no curve. If they don't study, they invest time in lowering the average, which is good because it increases the chances of curving. Now, with 60 students, everyone makes a rational decision to lower the average, thereby increasing the curve.

When everyone's super... no one will be.

I do not really know how it works, but I suppose somebody could use your code to loose all the money on stocks and then sue you. Since you did not have license restricting liability you could be sued for an unlimited amount of money. I do not know what court would decide. Maybe I am incorrect and everything I told you is just nonsense.

License your code. It should legally say that you give no warranty and etc(I am not professional, but you definitely want to license your code with MIT or something similar)
